Coric

Sergeant Coric, a clone trooper manufactured on Kamino, served with distinction in the 501st Legion's Torrent Company during the opening period of the Clone Wars. Born into service, Coric was specially trained as a medic, becoming a first aid specialist within the ranks of the Grand Army of the Republic. Under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Clone Captain CT-7567, known as "Rex," Coric participated in the Battle of Christophsis, utilizing his medical skills to aid his wounded brothers-in-arms. He also commanded a squad during the Battle of Teth against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, surviving the near annihilation of Torrent Company by the Separatist Droid Army alongside only five others, including Rex. Months later, Coric accompanied Rex, Skywalker's Padawan Ahsoka Tano, and six fresh 501st troopers on a routine exercise aboard the Leveler, a Republic Navy assault ship commanded by Captain Gilad Pellaeon. This assignment saw Coric assist in the rescue of Republic Intelligence operative Hallena Devis, who had been captured amidst a Separatist-supported rebellion on the planet JanFathal. Despite the mission's success, rookie troopers Vere and Ince perished during the operation.

Biography

Training and early career

Coric, the clone trooper with that designation, was bred on the world of Kamino with the purpose of fighting for the Grand Army of the Republic. The Kaminoan cloners provided him with standard combat training, but Coric also received specialized instruction as a clone medic and first aid specialist, ensuring his ability to treat wounded comrades on the battlefield. By 22 BBY, the initial year of the Clone Wars, Coric had been promoted to the rank of clone sergeant and assigned to the renowned 501st Legion of the Grand Army. Within this legion, he served in Torrent Company under the leadership of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Clone Captain CT-7567, nicknamed "Rex," with whom he developed close professional relationships.

Service in the 501st Legion

Christophsis and Teth

Coric served under General Skywalker and Captain Rex in the 501st's Torrent Company.

During the Clone Wars' opening year, Coric was deployed with a contingent from the 501st, reporting to Jedi Generals Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as Captain Rex, with the mission to retake the planet of Christophsis, which had been captured by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Republic forces established their base in Christophsis's Crystal City as they fought against the Separatist Droid Army, eventually driving back the Confederacy after days of intense combat. During a break in the fighting, Coric fulfilled his duties as a medic at the Republic's temporary aid station, located in a colonnaded doorway behind the front lines near the city's main boulevard. Here, Coric treated trooper Ged, who had sustained a wound from shrapnel that pierced the gap in his plastoid clone armor between his backplate and shoulder. Rex joined Coric and Ged at the station to shave his head, prompting Coric to joke about Rex's newly exposed scalp. After removing some of the bloodied armor fragments, Coric informed Rex that their supplies of bacta were dwindling, though they still had analgesics available. Rex assured him that the Republic cruiser Hunter was en route with reinforcements.

Suddenly, explosions rocked the main street, and Rex immediately returned to the front lines to join Skywalker and Kenobi. Coric finished treating Ged so the trooper could rejoin the battle. Once finished, Coric grabbed his medical field kit and advanced with the front line. Joining Rex and Skywalker in an infiltration of the Separatist battle droid lines, Coric and Ged ascended an energy sphere with their platoon, helping their commanders ambush three Separatist tri-droids moving through the street below. The group destroyed the droids, halting the Separatist advance. However, Confederate General Whorm Loathsom deployed a deflector shield in front of his troops to neutralize the Republic's heavy artillery. With Kenobi, Skywalker, and his new Padawan Ahsoka Tano occupied elsewhere, Coric and Rex led the remaining forces to defend the AV-7 Antivehicle Cannons from destruction by droids and tanks. The battle intensified, with increasing numbers of 501st troopers falling to enemy fire. Coric admitted to Rex that he was out of ideas, suggesting they draw the Separatists in, which Rex decided to do. Minutes later, Skywalker and Tano destroyed the Confederacy's deflector shield generator, and Coric immediately noticed the shield's collapse. The Republic cannons opened fire, obliterating the Separatist lines and halting their advance.

Admiral Wullf Yularen arrived at Christophsis with a fleet of Republic cruisers and reinforcements aboard, and LAAT/i gunships were deployed. A clone pilot warned Rex and Coric to stay clear of the gunships as they bombarded Separatist tanks. Despite the warning, Rex and Coric searched through the rubble for survivors, responding to life signs transmitted by their armor-mounted monitors. One of the life signs disappeared as the two clone officers attempted to move the debris. Ultimately, the Republic secured victory on Christophsis, capturing Loathsom and ending the Confederacy's occupation of the Outer Rim world. Following this success, Coric and Torrent Company were assigned to an assault force led by Skywalker, Tano, and Rex to rescue Rotta, the son of Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure, to secure access to hyperlanes through Hutt-controlled space. The Republic forces traveled to the Wild Space planet of Teth, where Republic scouts had located Rotta at an abandoned monastery, and launched an assault up the mesa towards the monastery. Coric was among the Torrent Company members who survived the assault, though half the company perished.

At Teth, Coric helped to rescue Rotta the Huttlet and even risked his life to ensure that Rotta was reunited with his crime lord father.

After Torrent Company defeated the Separatist defenses and secured the monastery, Coric joined Skywalker, Tano, Rex, and troopers Ayar, Lunn, and Vaize in searching for Rotta. The group entered the monastery's darkened antechamber, using their helmet lamps to navigate the dim light. Rex ordered his men to turn off their lights unless they encountered the enemy. Continuing through the monastery, the clones encountered the droid 4A-7. Coric and Lunn, closest to the droid, slammed it against the wall and aimed their blasters at its head. 4A-7 identified himself as the monastery's caretaker and thanked the Jedi and clones for liberating him from the battle droids. Skywalker asked about Rotta's location, and 4A-7 directed him to the detention level. Only then did Coric and Lunn release the droid on Rex's orders, though they remained wary. As Skywalker and Tano departed to find Rotta, leaving Rex and the other clones to secure the exit, Coric reactivated his helmet lamp and watched 4A-7.

Over the clones' private comlink channel, Coric expressed his desire to help Skywalker, but Rex insisted they follow orders. When Skywalker reported finding Rotta, Rex sent Coric to assist and bring a backpack to carry the heavy Huttlet. Arriving in Rotta's cell and catching the Huttlet's unpleasant odor, Coric requested permission to speak freely, then unleashed a string of expletives and expressed his wish to stow Rotta in the cargo bay. Coric handed the backpack to Tano, who loaded Rotta and strapped it on. After Coric informed Skywalker that Rex had an LAAT/i gunship ready for transport, the trio proceeded outside with Rotta. However, Tano realized Rotta was gravely ill and needed medical attention to survive the journey to Jabba's Palace on Tatooine.

The B'omarr Order Monastery was soon attacked by Separatist forces using C-9979 landing craft, deploying Vulture droid starfighters and an army of battle droids to retake the monastery. Under Rex's command, Coric and Sergeant Hez led their squads to provide covering fire in the courtyard alongside the Republic's only All Terrain Tactical Enforcer as the rest of the Republic forces retreated into the monastery. The AT-TE walker was destroyed by the advancing battle droids, and Coric and the few survivors retreated into the monastery before Skywalker sealed the doors, trapping his battle group inside. Only three-quarters of Torrent Company survived the Separatist counterattack, with Coric being one of the three remaining medic-trained troopers. At Rex's signal, the clones prepared defenses against the inevitable droid assault. Soon after, Skywalker, Tano, and the astromech droid R2-D2 departed with Rotta to find another exit and secure medical attention. Not long after the Jedi left, the battle droids breached the entrance and attacked the remaining members of Torrent Company. Waves of B1 and B2 battle droids and DSD1 dwarf spider droids stormed the antechamber, overwhelming the clones' resistance.

During the fighting, Coric was caught off guard by an approaching droid. While reloading, he swung his blaster like a club and received assistance from Rex, who shot the droid. By the time the droids secured the monastery, only seven members of Torrent Company remained, including Rex and Coric. When Rex contacted his surviving men and told them to report in, Coric replied, stating he had survived with only a few bruises. As Rex instructed the six troopers to follow him in escaping the monastery, Dark Acolyte and Separatist Supreme Commander Asajj Ventress found and interrogated the Captain about Skywalker's location. After Ventress left to confront Skywalker and Tano, leaving her droids to guard the clones, Coric checked on Rex to confirm he was still with them. Rex replied positively and joked with Coric and the others about Ventress's insults. Maintaining their positions on the ground to avoid detection, Rex and Coric tried to find a clear comlink channel but were unsuccessful. Then, Skywalker contacted Rex over his wrist comlink, and the message was loud enough for the battle droid guards to hear, alerting them to the clones' survival.

The survivors of Torrent Company use the fallen AT-TE as cover from the converging waves of Separatist battle droids.

Following Rex's lead, Coric and the other four clones sprang to their feet. Coric grabbed the rifle from a falling battle droid and joined his comrades at the AT-TE walker, where they took cover from the droids. The clones kept their rappel lines ready in case they could descend the cliff and escape to the jungle below. The clone troopers destroyed more droids, using the wreckage to reinforce the burned-out AT-TE. An hour later, Coric poked a strip-cam over the barricade, allowing Rex to survey the battle droid positions. While trooper Zeer planted explosives on a destroyed super battle droid to send back to its comrades, Coric and Del manned a repeating blaster stolen from the Separatists. Zeer finished his work and dispatched the trap droid, blasting through the battle droids. While the droids regrouped, Coric recalled a holovid in which enemy forces besieging a fort were so impressed by the defenders' bravery that they sang songs in their honor. Coric ended the joke by saying they had "all got shot."

The battle droids soon returned and converged on the remaining clones. Returning fire, the clones formed a square, facing outwards, and relied on the "generous supply" of mortars and other weapons left in the deactivated AT-TE. Almost back-to-back with Rex, Coric emptied clip after clip from a repeating blaster into the sea of battle droids. Eventually, General Kenobi arrived at the Teth monastery with reinforcements from the Grand Army's 212th Attack Battalion. As Republic gunships approached with Kenobi, Clone Commander CC-2224, nicknamed "Cody," and the 212th aboard, the battle droid commander ordered the remaining members of Torrent Company to surrender. Rex stalled until the arrival of the Republic reinforcements, which promptly destroyed the droids. With the 212th Battalion sweeping back the droids, the six survivors of Torrent Company met in the courtyard. Attie stated that Coric's holovid now had a different ending, as they had all lived "happily ever after," but Del, remembering their fallen brothers, replied that most had not. The Republic ultimately won the campaign at Teth, but although Torrent Company was replenished with new troops, the loss of the original unit was never forgotten.

Mission to JanFathal

Coric later joined Captain Rex on a training exercise for six new clone troopers aboard the Leveler, Captain Gilad Pellaeon's recently refitted Acclamator-class assault ship. The routine training mission evolved into a rescue operation to extract Republic Intelligence agent Hallena Devis from JanFathal. Coric attended the mission's planning meeting and reassured Jedi Knights Callista Masana and Geith Eri. Coric piloted the anonymous shuttle used by the extraction team to infiltrate the planet's capital amidst a Separatist invasion. Despite Rex's orders to leave after recovering the agent, Coric returned at Devis's insistence to retrieve Rex and his men. Following a series of unfortunate events that led the team back to the planet and into another battle with the invading CIS forces, Coric tended to the severe injuries of rookie trooper Ince. Despite Coric's expertise as a combat medic, Ince's wounds proved fatal, and he died despite Coric's best efforts.

Personality and traits

Coric, a dedicated sergeant within Torrent Company, cultivated a strong bond with Captain Rex, the unit's clone officer, and also became acquainted with Anakin Skywalker, the company's Jedi General. He displayed humor even in the most desperate situations, such as the unit's last stand during the Battle of Teth, earning a reputation for delivering jokes with a "deadpan tone." He also possessed a sarcastic wit. When given permission to speak freely about Rotta the Huttlet, Coric expressed his intense disgust at the Huttlet's aroma with a string of unflattering expletives, stating his desire to stow Rotta in the cargo bay to avoid the smell.

Talents and abilities

Coric received specialized training as a first aid specialist to provide medical assistance to his comrades on the front lines. His skills were evident in his ability to treat trooper Ged's severe shoulder wound caused by shrapnel, enabling Ged to return to combat.

Equipment

Coric's Phase I clone trooper armor, painted blue, bore the marks of blaster fire from the Battle of Teth. He carried a DC-15 blaster and a rappel line. Additionally, his role as a medic required him to carry a medical field kit during the Battle of Christophsis.
