Tarsus Valorum functioned as a politician and held the position of the inaugural Supreme Chancellor within the Galactic Republic following the collapse of the Old Republic.
As a member of House Valorum, Tarsus Valorum took on the role of the first Supreme Chancellor for the newly restructured Galactic Republic, after the fall of the Old Republic. The galaxy endured a dark age under Valorum's leadership, a time when the Sith were ultimately vanquished by the Jedi Order. During his tenure as Chancellor, the Galactic Senate was established, and the previously existing military forces were demobilized. Consequently, with the formation of the new Republic, the inhabitants of the Core Worlds expressed a strong desire to extend their influence into the Outer Rim Territories.
Finis Valorum, who would become the Republic's second-to-last Supreme Chancellor, was a direct descendant of Tarsus.

The initial reference to Tarsus Valorum in the new Star Wars canon occurred in the 2014 novel Tarkin, penned by James Luceno. This novel identified him as the Galactic Republic's first Supreme Chancellor. Subsequently, the 2019 reference book titled Rise of the Separatists explicitly named him as "Tarsus". The character of Tarsus Valorum had an earlier appearance in the 2007 Star Wars Legends novel Darth Bane: Rule of Two, which is the second book in the Star Wars: Darth Bane Trilogy by Drew Karpyshyn.
