The decline of the Old Republic, also referred to as the dark age, signifies an extended period within the Old Republic-era, during which the strength of the Galactic Republic gradually diminished. Ultimately, the Old Republic virtually disintegrated, plunging the galaxy into a dark age, which concluded with what was perceived as the ultimate defeat of the Sith and the subsequent restructuring of the Republic.

The Jedi Order emerged as the victors of the war, successfully managing to retake Coruscant from the Sith forces who had occupied the capital. The war concluded with the defeat of the Sith, with only one Dark Lord surviving. Following 1032 BBY, the Old Republic, having established peace throughout the galaxy, underwent a reorganization, resulting in the establishment of the modern Galactic Republic.
