Following their conquest of the galaxy circa 3636 BBY, the Eternal Empire, originating from the planet of Zakuul, constructed a shield bunker. This bunker was situated on a rocky peak within the Wound on Tatooine, and its purpose was to provide support for the Star Fortress positioned in geosynchronous orbit above. The defense of the bunker and its deflector shield generator was entrusted to ZK-163M, a high-ranking Skytrooper, and bolstered by formidable defensive installations, walkers, and Eternal Empire troopers. In approximately 3630 BBY, the Outlander, who commanded an Alliance opposing Zakuul, united the local insurgents against the Eternal Empire. They orchestrated a bombardment of the bunker, paving the way for the Outlander and the Selonian Leyta to penetrate and obliterate the bunker, thereby leaving the Star Fortress vulnerable.
The Tatooine shield bunker initially appeared in Star Wars: The Old Republic, specifically in Knights of the Fallen Empire, a digital expansion launched in 2015 for the video game.
