Tayan falcon

The Tayan falcon, a bird of prey exhibiting brilliant amber plumage, was a species inhabiting the mountain regions of the planet Kinyen. Revered within Kinyen's Doellinist faith, images of the Tayan falcon were common, with the birds themselves held sacred as manifestations of the primary deity, Doellin. Sharing a moniker with Taya, another of Doellin's incarnations, these falcons were trained by herders to protect against vermin, and their hunting strategies influenced the socialist Tayan League, the leading political organization on the planet.

Biology and appearance

These birds of prey, known as Tayan falcons, were found nesting in the mountain areas of the planet Kinyen within the Expansion Region. Their coloration was a radiant amber.

Behavior

These diurnal hunters utilized thermal currents to soar over the silvergrass plains of Kinyen, preying on rodents and insects. Tayan falcons possessed trainability, with many gamwidge herders teaching them to deter llaya, which posed a threat to their flocks. The falcons employed a distinctive method of deterring llaya, involving shrieks and simulated dive attacks.

History

The Tayan falcon's name was shared with Taya, the winged representation of Doellin, the central deity in Kinyen's Doellinist belief system, and the birds were considered to be avatars of Doellin themselves. Their ability to control llaya and other pests reinforced their revered status, attributed to Doellin's efforts to safeguard her lands.

Consequently, Tayan falcon imagery was widespread throughout Kinyen in both political and religious contexts. The First Temple of Doellin, Kinyen's largest Doellinist temple, featured prominent blue Tayan falcon motifs, while the design of the Capra Spaceport drew inspiration from a falcon in flight. Religious symbols and the attire of political and religious leaders frequently incorporated Tayan falcon depictions.

The actions of the Tayan falcon toward llaya influenced the ideology of the Tayan League, the socialist political group governing Kinyen, notably its principles of pacifism and exile.
