A teezl, alternatively called a screamer, was a bluish, swirling, and luminous being of non-sentient origin that could function as a naturally occurring hyperspace communications amplifier. During the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire came across a living teezl within the Valtha Divide. The Empire immediately understood that its unique capabilities could significantly alter the course of their conflict with the Rebels. A subsequent Rebel operation, however, aimed at preventing the teezl from being integrated into the Empire's war efforts, led to the destruction of both the teezl and the only known member of its mysterious species.
The teezl—also known as a "screamer"—was discovered in the remote Valtha Divide. It was a non-sentient creature, notable for its unique ability to serve as an organic communicator. It could instantaneously transmit electronically submitted information to any receptor across the galaxy. In addition, it possessed the power to disrupt communications, capable of interfering with signals on every wavelength except for one selected frequency. This interference took the form of a psychic shriek, creating a powerful blanket of static. The teezl followed commands given through a type of electronic prod. This enigmatic being had the appearance of a massive blue oval, containing hundreds of interwoven white circles within its form.

During the Galactic Civil War, a living teezl was found by Galactic Empire scouts in the Valtha Divide, and its remarkable powers were quickly understood. The Empire, believing it to be the sole member of its kind, organized a large secret armada under the leadership of Admiral Mils Giel to move the creature to the Imperial capital on Coruscant. The teezl was housed aboard Giel's flagship, the Praetor Mark II-class battlecruiser Helmsman. Giel viewed the teezl as a potentially decisive advantage in the conflict against the Rebel Alliance, as its capabilities could enable real-time coordination of all aspects of the war.
However, the Rebels became aware of the creature's existence and initiated the covert Operation Earplug to ensure the teezl never reached Coruscant. A small group of Rebel pilots under the command of Commander Luke Skywalker acquired several modified TIE fighters from the arms dealer Orion Ferret, using them to infiltrate Giel's armada. The Rebel squadron launched an attack from within, triggering a chaotic battle among the Imperial ships. The situation escalated when Giel ordered the teezl to jam the Rebels' communications. Despite this, Skywalker succeeded in destroying the teezl's containment and eliminating the creature, which also led to significant damage to Giel's Helmsman.
The initial appearance of the teezl occurred in Star Wars 61, which was written by David Michelinie, illustrated by Walter Simonson, and released in 1982.
