Star Wars: The Jedi Academy Trilogy
Star Wars: The Jedi Academy Trilogy is a set of three books authored by Kevin J. Anderson and brought to publication by Bantam Spectra between February and September 1 of 1994. The titles included in this trilogy are Jedi Search, Dark Apprentice, and Champions of the Force.
These books chronicle Luke Skywalker's endeavors to resurrect the Jedi Order on Yavin 4, focusing on his quest to find potential candidates for Jedi training.
Several narratives unfold across these three novels. The central storyline involves the spirit of Exar Kun as it attempts to corrupt Luke's Jedi students, leading to the death of one of them and the seduction of Kyp Durron, who then embarks on a destructive path using the Sun Crusher. Ultimately, the Jedi trainees defeat Kun, and Han Solo helps Kyp return to the light side.
The subsequent novel, I, Jedi, presents a retcon of many events that occurred at the Jedi academy, integrating Corran Horn into the narrative and resolving inconsistencies with later established continuity.
Development
Originally, the Jedi Academy Trilogy's outline included Mon Mothma's death resulting from an infection; however, Lucasfilm ultimately decided against this plot point. To promote the upcoming Science Fiction Book Club edition of the Jedi Academy trilogy, which was being released as a hardcover omnibus, Bantam Spectra, the series' publisher, aired a TV commercial for the series in November 1994.
