Maelstrom Nebula
The Maelstrom Nebula, often referred to as simply the Maelstrom, constituted a nebula that existed within the Outer Rim Territories.
Description
This vast nebula, the Maelstrom Nebula, manifested as an enormous green accumulation of energized space dust and pure energy. This phenomenon had the effect of disrupting navigational systems and confusing navigation computers. Situated on the boundary separating the Albarrio and Relgim sectors, the nebula forced vessels traveling the Relgim Run to disengage from hyperspace and navigate through the cloud at sublight speeds. This situation provided opportunities for the Riders of the Maelstrom, a group of pirates commanded by Big Jak Targrim, to attack passing starliners.
History
During the period of the Great Galactic War, the Maelstrom served as a strategically significant location for the Sith Empire. Within the nebula, the Empire concealed a space station, functioning as a prison where the Emperor held Revan captive for a duration exceeding 300 years, until his eventual freed.
When Rodin Higron, a sympathizer of the Rebel cause, initiated raids on ships traversing the run, Vanko and Torpin, the Moffs in charge of the Albarrio and Relgim sectors respectively, jointly resolved to take action to eliminate the pirates.
