The Marvel Comics Illustrated Version of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is a graphic novel within the Legends continuity. This adaptation of the motion picture, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, was crafted by Archie Goodwin and Al Williamson. Marvel Comics released it in May of 1980. Subsequently, the narrative was presented serially across issues 39–44 of the Star Wars comic book series.

The artwork featured on the comic's front was also utilized for both Marvel Special Edition 2: The Empire Strikes Back and Marvel Super Special 16: The Empire Strikes Back, although the book itself boasts a distinct design for its back cover.

Continuity

Within the pages of this graphic novel, the artistic depictions of Yoda by Al Williamson and Carlos Garzón bear a resemblance to a conceptual design for the character by Ralph McQuarrie. When the story saw republication in Star Wars (1977) 42, the artwork was modified to align with Yoda's on-screen appearance in the film.
