Plot summary

The gift

Baga, Kneesaa and the wish plant

Kneesaa's gardening endeavors are proving unsuccessful, as she experiences a streak of bad luck. Despite her heartfelt entreaties, her final remaining flower withers and dies. This leads to Kneesaa's apprehension that the village might lose faith in her ability to safeguard the Soul Trees. Wicket, Latara, and Teebo pay her a visit, but their presence offers little in the way of encouragement.

Overcome by despair, Kneesaa retreats to the garden's edge, accompanied by her pet bordok, Baga. Shortly thereafter, the Leaf Queen makes a dramatic entrance amidst a sudden, swirling gust of wind. She entrusts Kneesaa with the care of a unique plant. Kneesaa expresses her concern, citing her past failures with plants, but the Queen advises her to shower it with "lots of love," assuring her that it will thrive. The Queen promises to return for the plant in three days, and with another gust of wind, she disappears.

Greed and desire

Kneesaa and the wish plant

The other Ewoks begin to make fun of Kneesaa regarding the plant. Wicket startles Baga, causing him to bolt and drag the wagon carrying the plant—and Kneesaa—along with him. Their wild ride culminates in a crash into a muddy pit. Kneesaa expresses a desire for something to help her clean up, and the plant magically produces a brush. Subsequently, she wishes for an attractive accessory, and the plant provides her with a bow, which she places on Baga's head.

Teebo deduces that the plant is a wish plant. Latara then decides that she too desires a wish plant for herself. Later, Latara decides to abscond with the plant from Kneesaa's dwelling. Upon returning to her own hut, she voices a wish for something to enhance her beauty. The wish plant presents her with an unattractive mask, leading her to threaten to uproot it. The wish plant then gives Latara a nice outfit with jewellery.

Before she can fulfill another wish, Wicket is overcome by the same avarice. Back at his hut, Wicket wishes for assistance in obtaining his Belt of Honor. However, the wish plant dispenses two cumbersome weights, causing discomfort to his feet. Wicket issues a second demand, and the wish plant provides him with a "do-it-yourself" warrior kit. Wicket is delighted and dons the warrior attire.

Giving in to greed, Teebo also pilfers the wish plant. Noticing that the plant appears to be wilting, Teebo requests some magical powders. The plant produces powders that cause him to slip on the wooden walkway. Latara manages to catch the plant's pot, but Wicket seizes it. Teebo is knocked over in the process, and the three Ewoks engage in a struggle for possession of the plant. By the time Kneesaa recovers it, the plant is depleted and withered. Wicket remarks that it doesn't look too bad, but the plant sheds its last remaining leaf.

Crisis

Upon the Queen's return for the plant, Wicket fabricates a story, claiming that the plant is resting due to Kneesaa's diligent care. The Queen cautions them, revealing that she transformed the last creature who harmed her plants into leaves. The Queen announces her return before sunset. Kneesaa is afraid of being turned into a pile of leaves while Latara fears becoming a friend to a "pile of leaves."

Consequently, Wicket embarks on a quest to find another wish plant. Baga identifies a plant with a similar appearance, which Wicket attempts to uproot. However, the plant proves resistant to being pulled out. Meanwhile, Teebo attempts to revive the original plant with a magic spell, but, as usual, his efforts yield unintended consequences. Instead, the spell causes Latara's wreath to sprout new leaves.

Back in the forest, Wicket procures another plant from a hill but incurs the wrath of an insect that spits out stingers. A heartbroken Kneesaa tends to the plant in a cradle. Wicket returns, having also failed to find a replacement. Latara realizes that Wicket has failed while Teebo admits he doesn't have a potion. As the Leaf Queen arrives outside, Kneesaa cries over the plant as she apologizes to it.

Rejuvenation

She prepares to leave the hut to confess the truth to the Leaf Queen, unaware that her tears have actually revitalized the plant. Kneesaa begins to apologize, and her friends join in, pleading not to be transformed into leaves. The Queen inquires whether Kneesaa took good care of the plant before entering the hut. However, when the Queen retrieves the plant, they all witness its restored state. The Queen then assures Kneesaa that she will eventually be entrusted with the care of the Soul Trees. The wish plant then blooms some seeds for Kneesaa, which the Queen says she should plant them before it snows. Now the other Ewoks want Kneesaa to share her wish plant seeds.
