The Theta-class barge represented a type of dropship employed by the Galactic Empire's navy. Characterized by its boxy design, a pair of engines, and armed with two forward-facing pairs of laser cannons, it shared a similar shape and function with the bigger Y-85 Titan dropship. Adhering to the Empire's inclination towards subdued colors, the hulls of these barges were painted in a bluish-gray tone. A primary function of Theta-class barges was the transportation of newly manufactured vehicles, including 2-M Hover Tanks, MTV-7 light vehicles, speeder bikes, and various walkers, moving them from their respective factories to nearby landing zones for immediate deployment.
The Theta-class barge made its initial appearance in Star Wars: Commander, a strategy game for mobile platforms. Disney Interactive developed and launched the game in 2014 for iOS devices. Within the game, it serves to depict the transportation of vehicles from factories for all levels of the Imperial faction. The ship's designation is exclusively found within the game's internal files, specifically in the "transports" list. The Theta-class barge's concept was derived from the Star Wars Legends video game Star Wars: Force Commander (2000).
