Thonner, a celestial body, existed within the Moddell sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Its location was pinpointed as grid square H-16 on the Standard Galactic Grid. The Houche Run hyperspace route provided connectivity between it and the cosmic entities Maya Kovel and Ovise; additionally, another route linked it with Qina. A map illustrating the Moddell sector, found within The Rebel Files—a collection of non-electronic documents belonging to the Rebel Alliance—featured Thonner's depiction.
The current Star Wars canon saw the introduction of Thonner through its mention in the eighteenth issue of the Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine by De Agostini, released circa May 6, 2015. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet known as Thonner made its initial appearance in "Race for the Tessent," a roleplaying adventure. This adventure was created for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game by Wizards of the Coast, and it was published in the ninth issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine on February 22, 2002.
