Thrawn Pincer

The Thrawn Pincer was a space combat maneuver. Admiral Gial Ackbar conceived it soon after the conclusion of Grand Admiral Thrawn's war against the New Republic. This strategy drew inspiration from the effective utilization of Interdictor cruisers by Grand Admiral Thrawn, which enabled him to bring in reinforcements during his attack on Coruscant, among other engagements.

Characteristics

Grand Admiral Thrawn

The tactic commenced with the division of a main task force. The initial group would enter an enemy system and engage the opposing fleet, while the second group would jump to a nearby system. Upon the enemy fleet's activation of its gravity well projectors, the commander would instruct the second fleet to execute a micro-jump through hyperspace, typically positioning them behind the enemy. Normally, ships exiting hyperspace lack precise control over their arrival point, necessitating sublight travel to reach their intended destination. The advantage of this tactic lay in its ability to bring a fleet out of hyperspace at a precise and predictable location.

History

A notable deployment of this tactic occurred during the Battle of Ciutric in 9 ABY against Prince-Admiral Delak Krennel. This resulted in his death and a New Republic victory.

A variation of this tactic was employed during the Second Battle of Bilbringi. This instance involved three fleets: one Imperial fleet commanded by Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, and two New Republic fleets led by Admiral Sien Sovv and General Wedge Antilles.
