Throne of Balance

The Throne of Balance existed within beyond shadows, a location within the Force. This site, visible through the Pool of Knowledge found on a planet located within the Maw, offered glimpses of the future, manifesting as a being or beings situated on or near the Throne. Both Luke Skywalker and Jacen Solo experienced visions at the Throne of Balance. Solo's initial vision revealed a dark, armored figure reigning over the galaxy, surrounded by dark acolytes, driving him to avert this potential future. Shortly before his death, Solo had a second vision of the Throne of Balance, this time featuring his daughter, Allana, on the Throne, governing justly during a time of peace.

Leia Organa Solo experienced a similar vision two years later, where she saw Allana Solo standing before a diverse group of species, who looked to her for guidance and peace. In Organa Solo's vision, Allana was positioned near a large, white throne, but she was alone, without any support or comfort, and none of the Skywalkers or Solos were present.

Later, Luke Skywalker also witnessed Allana ruling peacefully when he gazed upon the Throne of Balance from beyond shadows. Subsequently, Sith High Lord Sarasu Taalon observed a Jedi queen – unknowingly Allana Solo – on the Throne, leading to the dissolve of the Sith's alliance with the Jedi. Fearing her potential to prevent the Sith from reclaiming the galaxy, he sought to learn everything about her to ensure such a future never materialized.

During the Duel at the Lake of Apparitions, Luke finally encountered the Dark Man. After their collaboration to defeat Abeloth, Jacen confessed to Luke that his turn to the dark side and his transformation into a Sith was motivated by his desire to alter the future, stemming from his vision of Allana alongside the Dark Man on the Throne of Balance. Krayt then correctly speculated that he would eventually rule, and that Caedus's actions had only delayed him.

Behind the scenes

Troy Denning conceived the Throne of Balance during his Star Wars writing, from Star Wars: The Dark Nest Trilogy through Legacy of the Force: Tempest, before it was first named in Fate of the Jedi: Abyss. The author clarified that it was not a literal, physical throne, but rather a symbolic myth that readers should be cautious about interpreting too literally.
