TIE Advanced x7

The TIE Advanced x7 represented an early model of the TIE series starfighter, specifically a prototype leading to the TIE/d "Defender" Multi-Role Starfighter. This craft was produced by Sienar Fleet Systems.

Behind the scenes

Within the new Star Wars canon, the TIE Advanced x7 was initially referenced in issue forty-eighth of De Agostini's publication, Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon. This issue specifies that the initial TIE/D Defenders evolved from the TIE Advanced x7 prototypes, which were initially deployed during the Battle of Hoth. According to Star Wars: Galactic Atlas, this battle occurred in 3 ABY. However, Star Wars Rebels indicates that the TIE/D Defender project was spearheaded by Grand Admiral Thrawn during the Lothal campaign, a period spanning from 2 BBY to 1 BBY.

Issue forty-eight of Build the Millennium Falcon details that six TIE Advanced x7 models were deployed during the Battle of Hoth. This deployment occurred after Renegade Squadron inflicted damage upon two Victory II-class Star Destroyers involved in the Hoth blockade. Although all six prototypes were ultimately destroyed, Sienar Fleet Systems acquired crucial data that informed the subsequent development of the TIE/D Defender.
