TIE Experimental M2

The TIE Experimental M2, also known by the moniker TIE BigGun, represented an experimental iteration within the TIE Series and formed an element of the broader TIE Experimental Project.

Attributes

This starfighter, a creation of an Imperial research initiative spearheaded by Director Lenzer under the authority of Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin, was fundamentally a typical TIE/LN starfighter. However, it differed by replacing the standard, forward-facing laser cannons with a pair of turbolaser turrets affixed to the outer edges of its wings.

While possessing a similar velocity to the standard TIE/LN, this fighter exhibited a marginal reduction in its agility. Consistent with other TIE Experimental models, the M2 was operated remotely using a modified Beta-class ETR-3 escort transport.

Historical Information

The Alliance's initial encounter with the M2 occurred when a squadron of B-wing starfighters ventured too near one of the Empire's installations. Details regarding this event are scarce, potentially suggesting the complete annihilation of the B-wing unit. Seeking to acquire further data on the remotely piloted TIE initiative, Admiral Yamarus orchestrated a deceptive convoy composed of MB-C1 medium transports and Z-95 Headhunters to provoke the Experimentals and their command vessel.

This strategy proved effective, as the Z-95 fighters, equipped with prototype ion pulse warheads, successfully neutralized or eliminated the entire Imperial assault force. The captured TIEs underwent thorough analysis, but the life-support systems aboard the control ship were pre-programmed to fail upon the transports' incapacitation.

Shortly afterwards, the Alliance received intelligence that directed them to the primary TIE Experimental manufacturing complex, where M2 fighters were among the defending forces protecting the hangar ship Sardis and the space station Obsidian.

Following the destruction of the Obsidian space platform, no further sightings of TIE Experimental fighters were recorded.
