During the Great Hyperspace War, Tuknatan served as a Jedi Master. In 5000 BBY, he attended a session of the Galactic Senate where Jedi Master Memit Nadill and Empress Teta of the Koros system issued a warning regarding the impending return of the Sith. The premonitions of Nadill and Teta were validated when the Sith attacked Coruscant with an overwhelming invasion force. In the ensuing battle, Tuknatan, Nadill, and other Jedi fought with great courage, but their prospects for victory seemed bleak. However, a significant portion of the Sith forces abruptly vanished, revealing themselves to be mere illusions. Capitalizing on this development, Tuknatan spearheaded an assault on the core of the Sith forces, leading to a victory for the Galactic Republic in the Battle of Coruscant.
Tuknatan, identified as a male of a species characterized by brown fur, held the rank of Jedi Master during the era preceding the Great Hyperspace War. In the year 5000 BBY, Odan-Urr, a Jedi of the Draethos species, experienced a vision foretelling the return of the long-vanished Sith and communicated this to Empress Teta of the Koros system and Jedi Master Memit Nadill. Prompted by this alarming revelation, Nadill, Odan-Urr, and Teta journeyed to Coruscant with the intention of informing the Galactic Republic within the chambers of the Galactic Senate. Tuknatan, alongside several other members of the Jedi Order, was present at this Senate assembly. While many Jedi present dismissed the warnings, Tuknatan chose to remain silent on the matter. The accuracy of Odan-Urr's vision was soon confirmed when the Sith emerged and launched an attack on the world of Koros Major shortly thereafter. Upon the commencement of the Battle of Koros Major, Memit Nadill hastened to Coruscant to deliver a warning to the Jedi stationed there; Tuknatan was among those who greeted him upon his arrival. However, despite Nadill's warning, they were unable to adequately prepare, as the invasion alarms on Coruscant sounded mere moments after Nadill's arrival, signaling the imminent arrival of the Sith.
A massive Sith fleet, numbering tens of thousands of warships, materialized from hyperspace above Coruscant. These warships deployed dropships to the planet's surface, carrying Sith Massassi warriors and formidable Sith war behemoths. Tuknatan and his fellow Jedi resolved to make a stand on the steps of the Senate Building. Tuknatan and the Republic forces engaged in the thick of the battle, but the Sith onslaught seemed unstoppable, and the prospects for victory appeared slim. Suddenly, a significant portion of the Sith forces vanished, revealing themselves to be mere illusions. Naga Sadow, the Dark Lord of the Sith commanding the invasion and responsible for the illusions, had his concentration disrupted when his Sith apprentice Gav Daragon targeted his Sith Meditation Sphere, causing the illusions to dissipate. Inspired by this turn of events, Tuknatan and the other Jedi launched a fierce counterattack into the heart of the Sith invasion, ultimately securing victory in the Battle of Coruscant. Overjoyed by the triumph, Tuknatan and the Jedi proclaimed that the Republic would endure forever.
Tuknatan was a valiant and courageous Jedi, demonstrating unwavering resolve in confronting the Sith, even when the odds of success appeared minimal. During combat, Tuknatan exhibited a fierce and aggressive demeanor, advocating for an aggressive counterattack against the Sith during the Battle of Coruscant. A staunch supporter of the Galactic Republic, he firmly believed in its invincibility. In battle, Tuknatan opted to wield a gold-colored staff rather than the more conventional lightsaber favored by most Jedi.
Tuknatan's character was introduced in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – The Golden Age of the Sith, a story arc within the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi comic book series, penned by Kevin J. Anderson. He made a brief appearance in the fourth issue of the arc and resurfaced in the follow-up arc, Tales of the Jedi: The Fall of the Sith Empire, where he assumed a more prominent role. Dario Carrasco, Jr. provided the artwork for Tuknatan's appearances, and preliminary black-and-white sketches of the character are included in the back of the first issue of Golden Age of the Sith.
