U was a designation assigned to a male Caarite who was employed by the Metatheran Cartel trading organization during the Clone Wars period. He was stationed at a Cartel facility located on the moon known as Tilnes. Around the year 21 BBY, U became infected with an experimental virus that had been released by the Believers, a Sith cult. This infection caused him to transform into a violent mutant creature. Subsequently, he was manipulated by the Believers, specifically Aris and Osia, into launching an assault on a group of independent contractors who had arrived at the Cartel's installation.
U was a name given to a male Caarite who worked for the Metatheran Cartel trading company during the era of the Clone Wars. U's workplace was a secret Cartel installation situated beneath the surface of the moon Tilnes within the Cularin system. He was present at this facility around 21 BBY when the Believers, a Sith cult, unleashed an experimental virus designed to be lethal to Caarites within the base. The disease quickly killed all Caarites in the Cartel installation, except for U and his fellow Cartel members, G and Ko Bas. These three were mutated by the virus, turning them into savage killers barely resembling their former selves.
Trapped within the infected Cartel base, U and the other two mutated Caarites began to feed on the corpses of their deceased colleagues. They generally stayed in the deeper sections of the facility, avoiding the main entrance area and leaving the bodies there untouched. To preserve their food supply, the trio moved many of the bodies into a large room on the south side of the facility, which had a lower temperature to slow down decomposition. Despite these efforts to conserve their food, the mutants' sustenance dwindled over the following days.
Two weeks after the virus was released inside the base, a Believer team arrived to assess the results of the virus's deployment. When the cultists arrived, U and G were in the base's hidden security office. There, they encountered the Believers Aris and Osia, who were fleeing from an attack by Ko Bas and sought refuge in the room. By communicating in Caarite and using the Force to influence their minds, the two Believers subdued U and G, bringing them under their control. Aris and Osia remained with the Caarites, unable to leave because the facility's security system had deactivated, sealing the doors.
Three hours after the Believers' arrival, the heroes of Cularin, a team of independent agents operating in the Cularin system, entered the base while investigating a distress signal. At about the same time, U accidentally knocked into an array of plugs in the security office, reactivating the base's security system and reopening the front doors. With the assistance of U and G, Aris and Osia ambushed the independent agents near the base's entrance, trying to prevent them from leaving with evidence of the anti-Caarite virus. During the ensuing battle, Osia ordered U and G to kill the agents, driving the mutated Caarites into the fight. However, the agents ultimately defeated the mutants and their Believer masters.
U underwent significant changes due to his exposure to the experimental virus released by the Believers inside the Metatheran Cartel base on Tilnes. He became an enlarged, deranged individual who was beyond reason. He also developed immunity to further exposure to the virus. While possessing similar physical strength to the mutated Caarite G, U was weaker than the similarly mutated Cartel employee Ko Bas. U was multi-lingual, capable of reading and writing Basic, Caarite, and Filordian. However, after his mutation, he could only understand Caarite.
U was a creation of Morrie Mullins and appeared in Caaried Away, a 2003 Star Wars Legends roleplaying adventure that initiated the Metatheran Caution trilogy within the RPGA's Living Force roleplaying campaign. In the adventure, players take on the roles of the heroes of Cularin, and they have the option to defeat or kill U when he confronts them in the Cartel base. If the player characters are incapacitated by the mutated Caarites and Believers, U and G will leave the facility with Aris and Osia. The adventure also suggests that if the player characters are at a lower roleplaying experience level, either U or G should be removed from the encounter with the Believers. Furthermore, Caaried Away suggests that the player characters might take a research-oriented interest in U and G, studying the mutants to gain a better understanding of the viral contagion that transformed the Caarites.
