Udrai held the rank of commander within the Galactic Empire's naval forces, and he was stationed on the Star Destroyer called Determination. Following the catastrophic event that saw the demise of the Death Star in the year 0 BBY, the commander addressed an Imperial squadron, encouraging them to seek his counsel if they were experiencing disturbing thoughts. In 1 ABY, after Lieutenant Tarvyn Lareka associated this with Captain Iden Versio, the lieutenant shared the captain's thoughts with Udrai. The commander then sought to assist them, but a group of stormtroopers intervened by arresting the pair.
During the era of the Galactic Civil War, Udrai's position was that of a commander within the Galactic Empire's fleet, serving on the Star Destroyer named Determination. In the aftermath of the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, which resulted in the loss of the Empire's Death Star superweapon, he spoke privately with a squadron, urging the TIE pilots to approach him if they required any support. In 1 ABY, Lieutenant Tarvyn Lareka, a member of the squadron, grew concerned that Captain Iden Versio, a Yavin veteran recently assigned to the Determination, was grappling with the troubling thoughts Udrai had mentioned.
The lieutenant engaged Versio in a conversation regarding her thoughts, secretly recording her expressing her disapproval of the Empire's destruction of the planet Alderaan and her sympathy for the ideals of the rebel Partisans. Lareka then transmitted the recording to Udrai, who responded with a message affirming that he was en route and acknowledging the lieutenant's actions as correct. However, before the commander could arrive, Versio and Lareka were taken into custody by a unit of stormtroopers, with Versio subsequently facing trial.
Udrai's character was referenced in the 2017 novel titled Battlefront II: Inferno Squad, penned by Christie Golden.
