Ulabore, a male lieutenant during the New Sith Wars, played a role in the events preceding the Seventh Battle of Ruusan. This officer commanded the Gloom Walkers, a unit within the Brotherhood of Darkness military, and was celebrated through awards and commendations due to the unit's apparent effectiveness. The Gloom Walkers' success, however, stemmed from the extraordinary capabilities of one of his troopers, Dessel, whose latent Force-sensitivity was later revealed as the source of his prowess. Ulabore's service with the Gloom Walkers extended across various planets, including Kashyyyk, Trandosha, and Phaseera, spanning from 1003 BBY to 1002 BBY. During the Battle of Phaseera, Dessel incapacitated Ulabore and seized control of the Gloom Walkers through mutiny, after Ulabore's refusal to reconsider orders. Following the conflict, Ulabore arranged for Dessel's arrest; however, before a trial could occur, Dessel was selected for training at the Korriban Sith academy. Ulabore's life ended in a Republic ambush, where he was killed by the Sith trooper Lucia, who shot him from behind.
As of 1003 BBY, Lieutenant Ulabore held command of the Gloom Walkers, a specialized unit within the military forces of the Brotherhood of Darkness. This occurred amidst the backdrop of the New Sith Wars, a conflict waged against the Galactic Republic. In that year, the Gloom Walkers, recently augmented by the additions of Dessel and Adanar, participated in the Battle of Kashyyyk, an offensive aimed at securing a foothold in the Mid Rim. Upon the Brotherhood's arrival at the Republic-held world of Kashyyyk, the Republic forces strategically withdrew into the vast wroshyr forests, employing guerrilla tactics to inflict heavy losses on the unprepared Brotherhood forces. Despite these setbacks, the Sith Masters persisted in deploying reinforcements, with the Gloom Walkers being committed as part of the second wave of troops. During the engagement, the Gloom Walkers became isolated from the main force, finding themselves deep within enemy territory. Overwhelmed by the situation, Ulabore struggled to maintain control of his unit in the absence of explicit instructions. However, Dessel intervened, successfully guiding the Gloom Walkers back to the main force. This feat became a symbol of resilience for the struggling Sith forces, significantly boosting morale. Following the Sith victory on the planet, Ulabore received a commendation. He neglected to acknowledge Dessel's pivotal role in the unit's survival, although he did promote Dessel to sergeant.

After the Battle of Kashyyyk, the surviving Republic soldiers retreated to the neighboring planet of Trandosha. In response, the Brotherhood of Darkness dispatched twenty units of Sith troopers, including Ulabore's Gloom Walkers, in pursuit. The Sith forces intercepted the Republic soldiers outside the city of Hsskhor, leading to the battle. As night fell, both factions disengaged to regroup, only to find themselves under attack by the native Trandoshans, who were not aligned with either side. The Sith managed to repel the attack, proceeding to eliminate the remaining Republic forces and destroy Hsskhor. Over the subsequent year, the Gloom Walkers participated in numerous battles, achieving significant success, largely attributed to Dessel's efforts. Despite Ulabore receiving recognition as the unit's leader, the members of the Gloom Walkers were aware that Dessel was the true leader in combat.
In 1002 BBY, the Gloom Walkers took part in the Battle of Phaseera, an attempt to seize the Republic manufacturing world of Phaseera. The Gloom Walkers were assigned the task of neutralizing an outpost that obstructed the Sith forces' advance through a valley leading to a Republic base camp in Phaseera's [capital](/article/capital-legends] city. After waiting for several hours, Ulabore received orders from the Brotherhood commanders to assault the outpost during daylight. However, when he communicated these orders to his unit, they protested, citing the high risk of casualties from Republic flatbed gunships. Ulabore's refusal to reconsider led Dessel to take control, rendering Ulabore unconscious and assuming command through mutiny.
Under Dessel's leadership, the Gloom Walkers successfully accomplished their objective and destroyed the outpost. This achievement was primarily due to Dessel's exceptional performance, as he killed a large number of Republic soldiers, even after suffering blindness from a flash canister. Upon the Gloom Walkers' return, Ulabore, accompanied by Sith enforcers, confronted them. Ulabore ordered the enforcers to apprehend Dessel as a prisoner for court-martial. As Dessel was being escorted away, he foresaw Ulabore's death in battle. However, the court-martial was never held, as news of Dessel's exceptional combat skills during the outpost capture spread. The Brotherhood of Darkness' leadership learned of his accomplishments, and he was selected for training in the dark side of the Force at the Korriban Sith academy. Dessel eventually became Darth Bane, a significant Dark Lords of the Sith in galactic history.
A month following the Battle of Phaseera, the Gloom Walkers were ambushed by Republic forces while patrolling Alaris Prime. During the ensuing close-quarters combat, both sides suffered casualties, including Ulabore. He was fatally shot in the back at close range by Lucia, an event that went unreported by his unit.
Despite the Brotherhood of Darkness' recognition of Ulabore as the Gloom Walkers' leader, he lacked leadership qualities, earning him the disapproval of his unit. Although Dessel was his most capable soldier, Ulabore treated him with condescension. Prior to the Battle of Phaseera, he criticized Dessel's questioning of orders, attributing it to cowardice. Ulabore generally disregarded the opinions of his unit, with the exception of Dessel on occasion. He feared punishment from his superiors and avoided disobeying orders due to the leaders' Force powers.
Ulabore was egotistical, readily claiming credit for the Gloom Walkers' successful return during the Battle of Kashyyyk. However, he acknowledged Dessel's contribution by promoting him to sergeant. Ulabore became vindictive when his ego was challenged, taking pleasure in ordering Dessel's arrest after being incapacitated before the Battle of Phaseera. He enjoyed inspecting his troops before battle, using it as an opportunity to feel involved, before deferring command to Dessel and remaining out of the way during combat. He was incompetent, but aware of his limitations.
Ulabore first appeared in Drew Karpyshyn's 2006 novel, Darth Bane: Path of Destruction. This remains his sole appearance in Star Wars canon, although in 2008, he was included in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.
