Umbaran hover tank

The Umbaran hover tank functioned as a repulsorcraft tank. It was utilized by the Umbaran Militia throughout the Battle of Umbara. These tanks incorporated electromagnetic plasma cannons, proving exceptionally potent when used against enemy infantry.

Description

Designated as UHT, the Umbaran hover tank was a single-occupant repulsorcraft tank manufactured by Ghost Armaments and operated by the Umbaran Militia. The cockpit was structured around an armored command module, positioned between dual conducting vanes, each containing an electromagnetic plasma cannon. A single blast from the plasma cannon was capable of devastating entire enemy platoons. When the vehicle was powered down and in a docked position, the conducting vanes could rotate and split open, functioning as landing supports. Despite the armored cockpit, the tanks suffered from two key vulnerabilities: their limited speed and susceptibility to flank attacks. The cannons, designed for long-range engagements, lacked the rotational speed necessary to effectively target enemies not directly in front of them, and they were also vulnerable to attacks up the middle at a close enough range that the cannons could not aim at the attacker.

History

Umbaran heavy cannons repel Republic clone troopers

During the Battle of Umbara, the Umbaran Militia strategically deployed these vehicles. As the 501st Legion made planetfall, the Umbarans positioned a line of hover tanks atop a nearby ridge, and another below it. This tactic inflicted considerable casualties on the Republic clone troopers advancing directly towards them. However, as AT-RTs were deployed by the troops, these agile walkers evaded the incoming fire, reaching the hover tanks and swiftly neutralizing them with flanking maneuvers. This action cleared the path, enabling the foot soldiers to establish defensive positions as additional Umbaran reinforcements arrived.

Behind the scenes

The debut appearance of Umbaran hover tanks occurred in "Darkness on Umbara," the seventh installment of fourth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated television show.
