An age-old writing system, which Ahsoka Tano called the "old tongue,"" was employed by Force users, both light and dark, well before the Imperial Era. This script was used for inscriptions covering the walls of the ancient Jedi Temple on Lothal. Comparable inscriptions were also present on the foundation of the Sith temple found on Malachor, within the tomb of Darth Bane situated on Moraband, at a shrine commemorating Robbs Ely close to Maz Kanata's castle located on Takodana, on numerous Massassi ruins present on Yavin 4, and as hieroglyphics inside the Sith temple beneath the Jedi Temple on Ashas Ree. practitioners
The ancient script observed within the Jedi Temple of Lothal originates from a drawing created by Ralph McQuarrie for The Illustrated Star Wars Universe, a Star Wars Legends reference book published in 1995. In that book, the Massassi script was inscribed within the Temple of the Blueleaf Cluster, one of the many Massassi temples situated on Yavin 4. Furthermore, this script makes an appearance in the "Jedi Under Siege" expansion of the Star Wars Legends video game Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne, on Ossus.
