This general of the Rebel forces was in command of Gamma Base which was located on Hoth during 0 BBY.
Leading up to the Battle of Yavin, forces of the Imperial army, under the direction of Darth Vader, deployed Viper probe droids with the intent of finding Rebels who were escaping Tatooine after the destruction of Anchorhead Base. After his communications officer detected a probe droid on Hoth, the general sent Rookie One to investigate it and destroy it. When Rookie One verified the presence of probe droids, the Rebels had to evacuate.

The commander at Gamma Base made an appearance in Star Wars: Rebel Assault, a video game from LucasArts released in 1993 and created by Vincent Lee. The game portrays a conflict between the Imperial military and Rebel forces on Hoth, set three years before the events of the Battle of Hoth as depicted in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. During the creation of the game's cut-scenes, the production team utilized footage taken from the original trilogy, digitally inserting members of the game's development team over the faces of the actors from the movie. The scene featuring the Gamma Base commander was extracted from The Empire Strikes Back, with Steve Purcell, an artist at LucasArts, replacing the actor playing General Carlist Rieekan.
