A spice extraction site located on the planet Kessel was no longer in operation by the time the Galactic Empire rose to power. It served as the setting for the Conclave on Kessel, a meeting of Jedi Knights that tragically sought to draw out the Sith Lords.
This former mining operation had been completely tapped out, leading to its abandonment, including most of its equipment. According to information from Shadday Potkin, even the spice spiders had left the area, although she warned against staying there for too long.
The mine consisted of a spacious, roughly rectangular chamber featuring self-illuminating panels attached to its walls. Inside, a large mining crane was present, along with numerous repulsorlift mining vehicles that remained filled with rock and ore. The site also seemed to have an oxygen processing system or filter, as the air within the cavern was still breathable.
Much of the abandoned equipment appeared to be in relatively good condition.
Following the enactment of Order 66, the mine became the chosen location for a gathering of Jedi. Those present included Shadday Potkin, Bultar Swan, Tsui Choi, Roblio Darté, Sia-Lan Wezz, Ma'kis'shaalas, Koffi Arana, and Jastus Farr.
However, the Jedi assembly was secretly intended by Shadday Potkin as a scheme to ensnare the Sith. She spread misinformation suggesting that Obi-Wan Kenobi would be present, which successfully captured the attention of Darth Vader.
As Potkin foresaw, Vader arrived, acting alone and without caution.
During the ensuing conflict, Vader eliminated three of the Jedi, utilizing both his lightsaber and a cortosis blade that he took from the fallen Potkin. Bultar Swan was killed by one of the other Jedi in order to take her lightsaber. The three surviving Jedi—Tsui Choi, Roblio Darté, and Jastus Farr—launched a telekinetic attack against Vader, using the contents of the abandoned mining carts to hurl debris at him, leaving him severely wounded and partially buried.
The remaining Jedi were subsequently killed by the sudden arrival of stormtroopers belonging to Vader's 501st Legion.
