The maitrakh, who belonged to the family of Khabarakh within clan Kihm'bar, held the leadership position during the time of the Thrawn campaign. Her birth occurred either during or before the period of the Clone Wars, and her formative years were spent in the aftermath of the Honoghr catastrophe; she possessed recollections of the scent of kholm-grass before it was replaced by an Imperial hybrid, indicating she was old enough to remember the Gahenna's crash.
By 9 ABY, she had risen to the rank of maitrakh. At that time, Leia Organa Solo was brought before her when Khabarakh, her thirdson, returned from his unsuccessful commando mission accompanied by Imperial Noghri Commando Team 22. Despite her initial reluctance to heed the words of the New Republic Councilor, the maitrakh honored the promise of protection made by her thirdson and ultimately became an ally of the former Princess when she played a role in revealing the truth of the Noghri's enslavement to the Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Empire. The loss of her son, grandson, and near loss of her great-grandson to the Imperial cause was a factor in her decision to assist Leia.
The character of the clan Kihm'bar maitrakh made her debut appearance in Dark Force Rising, a 1992 novel that constitutes the second installment of The Thrawn Trilogy penned by Timothy Zahn.
