Vaklin

Vaklin, the homeworld of Shula Shevu, was a planet situated within the Vaklin system. This world resided in the Inner Rim Territories. Initially, Vaklin, a world with strong pro-Jedi sentiments, resisted the anti-Jedi messaging propagated by the Galactic Empire. However, it eventually yielded to pressure exerted by Darth Vader.

Description

The Howling Ruins.

Vaklin, a temperate planet characterized by deep canyons, wall cities, and fertile plains where cities were constructed, experienced a period of depopulation sometime in its past before being resettled by Trivak Ninegun. The Howling Ruins, an ancient city nestled on a cliffside, were the subject of local folklore and were treated with respect by the inhabitants, who avoided disturbing the history contained within its ancient walls.

History

Honoring the Jedi

In its history, the planet Vaklin underwent a period of complete depopulation. Later, it was re-inhabited by the Trivak Ninegun, which led to the development of a culture deeply devoted to the Jedi Order and its members. During the New Sith Wars, while situated in unaligned space, the world was afflicted by a Rust plague at one point. This was before the intervention of Jedi Master Prokreisha. Further solidifying the Jedi's legacy, the people of Vaklin willingly entrusted their Force-sensitive newborns to the Order, hoping to provide them with an escape from the pervasive poverty and economic hardship that plagued the planet.

Vaklin's cities, known for their mines and rust yards, were diverse in population. Their streets bustled with vendors and individuals striving to earn a living. In honor of their Jedi heroes, they erected parks and statues, including Northward Park, which was created using cuttings from the Neti Jedi Master Uro Koo. The people of Vaklin established a Jedi Temple deep within the Howling Ruins, an ancient cliffside town, as a place to present offerings and pay homage to the Jedi who played a significant role in the planet's traditions.

Fall of the Order

When the Clone Wars broke out across the galaxy, the Jedi demonstrated their commitment to Vaklin by assisting the planet when the Confederacy of Independent Systems launched an attack. The Republic and the Order successfully repelled the Separatist Droid Army by deploying Jedi High Council member Ki-Adi-Mundi and forces from the Grand Army of the Republic, resulting in only minimal damage to a few blocks of the capital city. The inhabitants celebrated the Jedi's triumph and expressed gratitude to the Order for their valor in safeguarding the city from complete destruction. This further demonstrated the Jedi's protection and strengthened support for them, which grew even more when the Galactic Empire seized power at the conclusion of the war and initiated the Great Jedi Purge.

When the Empire established its authority over the world, Jedi Knight Cho'na Bene, along with two allies, initiated the Vaklin insurgency against the invading Imperial forces. In response to the populace's active resistance, Darth Vader was dispatched to sway the people against the Jedi and quell the uprising. Vader successfully captured and killed the Jedi Master who aided Bene, along with the Master's apprentice. The insurgents attempted to free the Barabel Jedi held in a detention city within the city, but all were killed during the attack, including the Jedi.

Vader ordered the destruction of all statues and memorials dedicated to the Jedi and began a campaign to eliminate the people's support for them. Despite initial setbacks, Vader managed to turn the populace against the Jedi, leading them to withdraw their support for Bene. They stood by as the Jedi was shot down and killed in a public square. Vader departed, leaving the planet in economic disarray, with numerous public areas destroyed, the Temple of Imperfect Repose in ruins, and public support for the Jedi suppressed by fear and a newfound willingness to forget in order to survive.
