The vibro-voulge was a staff weapon, topped with an axe-like blade, wielded by two members of the First Order's Elite Praetorian Guard. These guards served Supreme Leader Snoke on his flagship, the Supremacy. These advanced weapons were designed to withstand blows from lightsabers.
Similar to other advanced weaponry employed by the Elite Praetorian Guard in service of defending Supreme Leader Snoke, the vibro-voulge's hardened metal blade was linked to a small ultrasonic generator. This generator produced high-frequency vibrations along the blade's edge, enhancing its cutting power. Moreover, an electro-plasma filament ran parallel to the blade, creating an energized edge capable of deflecting a lightsaber. In contrast to most of the Elite Praetorian Guard's arsenal, the vibro-voulge contained a power cell located within the base of its hilt.
During 34 ABY, two Elite Praetorian Guards were armed with vibro-voulges aboard Snoke's flagship Supremacy when General Armitage Hux and Kylo Ren of the First Order approached Snoke to discuss their failure. When Ren moved to strike Snoke for his mockery, one of the guards activated his vibro-voulge in response. Later, when the Force-sensitive scavenger Rey was brought before Snoke by Ren, the Praetorian Guards engaged Rey and Ren with their vibro-voulges and other weapons after Ren had killed Snoke. The vibro-voulges proved ineffective against Rey's and Kylo's lightsabers, leading to the demise of all the guards. One of the vibro-voulge users was the first to fall, pierced by Rey's blue lightsaber. The second managed to survive longer, but ultimately died when Kylo Ren thrust his lightsaber through the guard's chest before throwing his body into a reactor.
