Major Vig, a Human male stormtrooper officer, loyally served the Galactic Empire throughout the duration of the Galactic Civil War.
By the year 5 ABY, Vig, an effective Imperial Officer, had attained the rank of Major and garnered respect from those under his command due to his bravery and skill. His men followed his instructions because he inspired respect and was quick to use a blaster. Vig sported a non-regulation mustache, which his superiors tolerated because of his solid reputation, even though it annoyed them.
In 5 ABY, he was assigned to Jerec's battle group, which launched an invasion of the planet Ruusan in pursuit of the Valley of the Jedi. Jerec believed that the ancient artifacts discovered in the caves surrounding the Valley of the Jedi would both compensate the corporate sponsors for the costs incurred by his fleets and appease his detractors within the Imperial Remnant. The Major oversaw the looting of the chambers, becoming intimately familiar with the necropolis complex and providing tours to visiting officers. The "archaeological" activities soon agitated the trapped spirits of the necropolis, frightening his troops and causing chaos that halted progress.
One morning, Vig dispatched a Stormtrooper to accompany Dark Jedi Yun at the cavern; the young Jedi was sent to take command of the team. Amidst another disturbance caused by the "Screamers," as the troopers called the ghosts, Vig attempted to restore order with threats when Yun entered the chamber. They witnessed three spectres invading a trooper's body, and another uproar was imminent until Yun announced his presence and offered assistance. Vig's troopers felt relieved within their shock, seeing one of those exalted figures surrounding the almost-mythical Jerec. Yun proposed that Vig proceed with some executions to restore order, but Vig objected, attributing the chaos to the horror he also felt. Yun remarked that his compassion was an interesting tactic, and then Vig observed him concentrating and calming the screamers. Reassured that the screamers would be managed from that point forward, Vig ordered his men to resume their work, choosing to ignore their insubordination.
The Major provided a tour of the base, demonstrating to the newcomer how to use an ancient stasis-operated ration pack that revived living creatures for consumption. He showcased other treasures in other rooms, including healing machines, a tractor beam projector, and a fusion reactor, all of minimal size. This was followed by a formal lunch in a repurposed storeroom with a Captain and two Lieutenants. At the conclusion of the meal, he observed Lt. Hab and then Yun being possessed by a screamer.
A few days later, an earthquake occurred, and Vig discovered Jaru trapped beneath a slab of rock. The Major attempted to manage the rescue efforts, but the workers were unable to move the rock, and the construction droids were three minutes away. The boulder kept etching down and there was no long time for the man. Yun joined him, and Vig explained the situation. He was astonished to see Yun using telekinesis to lift the boulder four meters off the ground, allowing the workers to pull Jaru out. He expressed his amazement to Yun, and then directed his men to take Jaru for medical attention.
Vig was a physically large Human male, distinguished by a sizable, non-regulation mustache and short red hair. He was well-known for his great courage and even greater competence.
Vig did not adhere to the Dark Side philosophy of respect being derived from fear. When faced with insubordination, Vig would draw his weapon to force his men back into order and to continue their duties. However, once the chaos subsided, he would not resort to exemplary executions, understanding that it was a consequence of uncontrollable horror. Yun considered his "compassion" an interesting, albeit weak, strategy.
Gary Groomes provided the voice for Vig in the audio adaptation of Dark Forces: Jedi Knight.
