Vima Sunrider's lightsaber, a weapon of tradition, was crafted in 3986 BBY. The Jedi apprentice, Vima Sunrider herself, created it during her training under the Jedi Master Ulic Qel-Droma. Sunrider used Adegan crystals in her lightsaber, crystals that once belonged to her deceased father, Andur Sunrider. Once completed, the weapon generated a bright green blade. Throughout her apprenticeship with Qel-Droma, she continued to use this newly constructed lightsaber.
The lightsaber used by Vima Sunrider, a Jedi apprentice, was made up of different metallic components. The assembled lightsaber had several surfaces and was split into three parts, with the smallest at the hilt's base. The blade emitter was encircled by four extending shrouds. A green Adegan crystal focused the weapon, producing a blade of the same color when activated. Sunrider typically carried the lightsaber on her hip when it wasn't being used.

Back in 3986 BBY, Vima Sunrider, who was training with Jedi Master Ulic Qel-Droma (a self-exiled figure) on the ice-planet of Rhen Var, faced the final task of her Jedi training: building her own lightsaber. Sunrider was seated at a table where all the necessary parts for the project had been placed. Also present were three green Adegan crystals, part of a collection that once belonged to her late father, Andur Sunrider. With guidance from Qel-Droma, Sunrider built her lightsaber and immediately activated it upon finishing. To her delight, it worked perfectly and produced a bright green blade. The activation of her weapon was mirrored by her Master, after which Sunrider challenged him to a practice duel.
Sunrider used her lightsaber in her first combat lesson, where she learned to respect the weapon. Later, she used the lightsaber with Qel-Droma to carve massive ice sculptures into a frozen cliff face. Sunrider sculpted her father, while Qel-Droma sculpted his deceased and beloved Jedi Master Arca Jeth.
However, by the time of their second training session, Sunrider had become careless with her weapon, which frustrated her Master. Ignoring Qel-Droma's instruction to hold, a reckless move resulted in the accidental severing of a cherished pendant he wore around his neck. Soon after, Vima showed the lightsaber to her mother, the renowned Jedi Knight Nomi Sunrider, as proof of her progress as a Jedi. Six years later, Vima Sunrider recalled her time with Qel-Droma through the Great Holocron, remembering how he successfully taught her to build her own lightsaber despite his inability to touch the Force.

The first appearance of Vima Sunrider's lightsaber was in Tales of the Jedi – Redemption 4, the fourth issue of the Redemption story arc within the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi comic-book series. Kevin J. Anderson wrote the issue, Chris Gossett did the pencils, and Dark Horse Comics released it on October 28, 1998. The lightsaber's creation scene, and subsequent scenes featuring it, were the result of months of close collaboration between Gossett and Anderson. They worked closely to create a very emotional storyline throughout the entire Redemption arc.
Igor Kordey's cover for the arc's fifth issue incorrectly depicts Vima Sunrider's lightsaber with a bright magenta blade. Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, which contains an in-universe reference to Sunrider's lightsaber, also includes an image of her and her weapon, again incorrectly drawn with a blue blade by Tommy Lee Edwards.
