A vixus was a creature native to Umbara that remained in a fixed location and lacked sentience. It possessed tentacle-like appendages resembling innocuous vines, which it employed to capture prey and drag them towards its toothy mouth. Inside the mouth was an elongated tongue with a unique three-pronged claw shape, used for grasping.
During the Battle of Umbara, members of the 501st Legion came across several vixus entities. Regrettably, one clone trooper fell victim to a vixus and was consumed. However, when the creature attempted to devour CT-5555, known as "Fives," he retaliated by placing a thermal detonator inside its gaping mouth, resulting in its internal explosion and demise.
While in pursuit of the renegade Jedi Master Pong Krell, the clone troopers sustained significant casualties as their chase led them into the dense jungle. Clone trooper CT-5385, designated "Tup," devised a strategy to bait Krell towards a vixus. The clones successfully maneuvered Krell into the grasp of another vixus, which then tried to devour him. The Jedi severed the creature's tongue and multiple tentacles, subsequently killing it. Immediately after, Tup stunned Krell, enabling the clones to apprehend him.
The vixus shared evolutionary origins with the rathtar, blixus, and sarlacc. These creatures all had a large mouth, tentacles, and an insatiable hunger. Each species, found on different planets, had evolved uniquely to become an effective predator in its respective habitat.
