Voolvif Monn

Voolvif Monn, hailing from the Shistavanen species, achieved the esteemed rank of Jedi Master and served the Galactic Republic as a Jedi General throughout the Clone Wars. Discovered as an infant with a strong connection to the Force, Monn was taken from a planet situated near the Arah asteroid belt by a Jedi named Paouoish Rahhdool. Subsequently, Rahhdool brought his new Padawan to Coruscant for training in the ways of the light side of the Force. Monn demonstrated exceptional skill as a Jedi, ultimately earning the title of Jedi Knight prior to 22 BBY. He carried the Jedi tradition of isolation to extremes, remaining distant from his fellow Jedi.

When the Clone Wars began in 22 BBY, Monn joined a group of Jedi dispatched to Geonosis on a rescue mission for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Padmé Amidala. During the ensuing battle, he was among the few who survived. His proficiency in combat against the Separatist droid forces led to his promotion to Jedi Master. Over the three years of conflict between the Republic and the CIS, Monn participated in numerous battles, including the Battle of Muunilinst, consistently emerging victorious.

Biography

Jedi Knight

Voolvif Monn, a Wolfman of the Shistavanen species, was orphaned as a young child on a remote planet positioned near the Arah asteroid belt. His Shistavanen lineage endowed him with exceptional hunting and tracking abilities, and lacking a family, he was forced to survive on his own. Eventually, Monn was discovered by Jedi Master Paouoish Rahhdool, who recognized the young cub's remarkable potential in the Force. Monn was then taken to be trained in the ways of the Jedi, eventually passing his trials to become a fully recognized Jedi Knight.

Monn proved to be a dedicated and talented Jedi Knight. He became a master—some even said he perfected—a rare Force power where he used Force energy to create a protective barrier around himself. Monn was also skilled with a lightsaber, using his green-bladed weapon to defend against multiple enemies at once. He also refined his hunting skills as a Jedi. The Jedi Order mandated that its members avoid forming emotional bonds with others, whether Jedi or not, though many came close to violating these rules through friendships with fellow trainees. Voolvif Monn, however, adhered to this rule more strictly than his peers, spending most of his time as a Jedi in solitude.

Battle of Geonosis

In 22 BBY, Monn was at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when a distress signal arrived from Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was on the planet Geonosis in the Outer Rim Territories. Kenobi, along with Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala, had been captured by the Confederacy of Independent Systems and were scheduled for execution. Mace Windu, a Jedi Master, led a team of more than two hundred Jedi to Geonosis to rescue Skywalker, Kenobi, and Amidala from Count Dooku, the leader of the Confederacy—Monn was among them.

The Jedi at the Petranaki arena were significantly outnumbered by battle droids, and many died. Monn, however, used his shielding abilities to survive and participated in the Battle of Geonosis after Grand Master Yoda arrived with reinforcements in the form of the Grand Army of the Republic. The Jedi and the Republic ultimately prevailed, though many of Monn's fellow Jedi were killed in action.

Clone Wars

The Battle of Geonosis marked the beginning of the Clone Wars, a conflict that spanned the galaxy. Monn's demonstrated abilities on Geonosis led to his promotion to Jedi Master, enabling him to command clone troopers in the war. Four months after Geonosis, Monn and his clone forces were deployed to Muunilinst to reclaim the planet from San Hill's InterGalactic Banking Clan and to suppress the production of CIS battle droids. Following a Republic bombardment of the planet's main city, Monn led a group of clones through the city's streets, while Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Muunilinst 10, an elite clone unit, attacked the InterGalactic Banking Clan's main command center.

Concealed by smoke, Monn advanced alone towards the CIS forces, amidst the remnants of the once-great city now in ruins. Upon being spotted by the B1-Series battle droids, the Shistavanen Wolfman charged as the droids began firing their blasters. Monn deflected the incoming bolts, leaping towards his enemies and cutting them down in large numbers. After Monn repelled the initial wave of droids, his troops arrived in LAAT/i gunships, deploying charges and ground troops to engage the remaining CIS forces. The battle was short-lived, as Kenobi forced the Muuns to surrender and deactivate their droids. Monn celebrated with his troops, but soon found himself back in battle.

Later in the war, during the Outer Rim Sieges, Monn, along with fellow Jedi Agen Kolar and Aayla Secura, were sent to an ice-covered planet to combat CIS forces. However, the battle turned in favor of the Separatists, leaving Monn, Kolar, and Secura facing several LM-432 crab droids equipped with bubble wort projectors. Despite their best efforts, the Jedi were trapped in the bubbles. They were rescued by Anakin Skywalker, who single-handedly destroyed the droids and freed Monn and the other two Jedi.

Personality and traits

Voolvif Monn celebrating.

Voolvif Monn largely avoided the company of other sentients throughout his life. He grew up alone in the Arah asteroid belt, honing his hunting and tracking skills. As a Jedi, he took the Order's decree of detachment to an extreme, spending almost all his time alone. He remained distant from his peers, rarely speaking except for the joyful roars he emitted after winning a battle.

Due to his isolated lifestyle, Monn was considered an enigma by other Jedi, and few dared to approach the mysterious Jedi Master. Despite his aloof and distant nature, Monn was always ready to fight when necessary, demonstrating his bravery repeatedly during the Clone Wars. Monn had grey skin, black eyes, brown hair, and a height of 1.83 meters.

Behind the scenes

Voolvif ready for a fight

Voolvif Monn was created as part of a Cartoon Network poll to determine which of three new Jedi, each based on characters from the cantina scene in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, would appear in the Star Wars: Clone Wars television series. Monn won the poll and appeared in "Chapter 20," but the other two contestants, Foul Moudama and Roron Corobb, were later introduced as well, playing larger and more important roles than Monn. An action figure of Voolvif Monn was also released as part of Hasbro's 30th Anniversary Collection, making him one of the few Expanded Universe characters released by Hasbro. Monn was included in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.

Voolvif Monn's name is similar to that of the Shistavanen Wolfman from A New Hope, who inspired his creation, and was originally nicknamed "Wolfman."
