The Voss commandos were soldiers who hailed from the Voss species, indigenous to the planet bearing the same name. It was said that these Commandos underwent rigorous training, enabling them to withstand attacks from another native species, the technologically advanced, yet pre-flight Gormak. Functioning in conjunction with the Voss Mystics, the Commandos were based in the fortified mountain city of Voss-Ka. During the Cold War, Jenar-Sei led a squad of these Voss Commandos.
During the Galactic War that occurred between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, the planet Voss became a contested territory. Both factions desired an alliance with the Voss. To combat their ancient foes, the Gormak, the Empire and the Republic provided support to the Voss commandos and Voss Mystics. Some commandos, however, disobeyed orders and ventured into the Nightmare Lands, where they became corrupted. Forces allied with the commandos later eliminated these corrupted individuals.
The commandos' role was to safeguard the perimeter, as well as the inner sanctum, of the Shrine of Healing, a temple where Voss Mystics underwent their training.
In the year 3640 BBY, the Voss commando known as Abdan-Sho collaborated with the Republic scout Kelnu Velus, along with another individual, to recover an experimental armor that was utilized by the Gormak. Following the killing of his comrade, Goren-Bo, the commando enlisted the aid of an individual aligned with the Republic to hunt down the nexu responsible, which was named Grellik.
In that same year, the First Commando Nakar-Sel oversaw the Trial of the First, a ritualistic test that commando recruits were put through, alongside a Republic team. The commando Nodin-Fe requested assistance from a Republic hero to locate and bury the ancient Sith ship known as Evuk-Nosk, which the Gormak sought to exploit.
Simultaneously, a group of Voss commandos were engaged in combat with the Gormak at the Pelath-Ri Marches. They suffered casualties, but were later assisted by an individual aligned with the Empire, who proceeded to destroy the Gormak and their weaponry. The Sith lord known as the Emperor's Wrath aided the commandos Biddeck-Va and Ono-Mi by eliminating multiple Gormak chieftains. However, the Wrath ultimately betrayed and killed them in order to obtain the Pendant of Bone that they possessed.
When the Shrine of Healing came under attack from Gormak cannon fire, the commandos sought the assistance of an Imperial individual to destroy the cannons. Kotal-De led a group of commandos, with Imperial support, in an attempt to capture the Gormak King Jokull, but was killed in the process.
The Voss commandos were initially presented in a holonet article promoting the Star Wars: The Old Republic video game.
