Arachnes were a species of arachnids that originated from the planet Endor.
A specific arachne species, referred to as bone gnasher, also took up residence within the Krayt Cult Cave located on Tatooine. This was due to their importation from Endor to Tatooine by members of the Krayt Cultists.
During the era of the Galactic Civil War, the GeneTech Syndicate engaged in an illicit bioengineering project on Talus, known as the Parasophic Arachne initiative, with the goal of engineering a highly intelligent and formidable arachne. While the experiment achieved success, the resulting bioengineered arachnes turned against their creators, resulting in the deaths of the majority of the GeneTech Syndicate Lab personnel. The Corellian Security Force eventually uncovered the situation, and the arachnes were ultimately eliminated by a team of spacers under the direction of Agent Taarna.
Within the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies, the majority of the enormous Arachne spiders are classified as Angler creatures. This designation is often misleading, as creatures such as the bone gnashers are categorized as Anglers despite their presence on Tatooine, where the practice of fishing for prey is essentially impossible.
