Wuher

Wuher was a human male native to the desert planet of Tatooine, and he served as a bartender within the walls of Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina.

Having experienced the loss of his parents due to the actions of battle droids during the tumultuous era of the Clone Wars, a strong aversion to droids took root within him. Consequently, he installed a droid detector as a means of keeping them out of the cantina. Despite these measures, Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi made their entrance accompanied by the droids C-3PO and R2-D2. Upon noticing their presence, Wuher made it clear that he would not serve droids and requested that they wait outside.

Sometime later, Boba Fett entered the cantina, seeking information about the identity and whereabouts of Luke Skywalker. After the bounty hunter subjected an alien to torture, Wuher informed Fett that he and the other patrons were unaware of the boy's name or identity.

Biography

In the year 0 BBY, Wuher, adhering to his established policy, instructed moisture farmer Luke Skywalker to leave his two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO, outside before he would serve him a glass of Water. He was a witness to the harassment of the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his apprentice by two escaped criminals, Doctor Cornelius Evazan and his associate [Ponda Baba](/article/ponda_baba]. The latter suffered the loss of his arm after provoking Kenobi.

Personality and traits

Wuher, being an orphan, managed to escape the harsh conditions of Tatooine's streets through the study of various species' biochemistries. This knowledge allowed him to determine which types of drinks would appeal to different species.

Wuher held a deep-seated dislike for the concept of slavery, believing that no one should be forced into servitude. He could have lightened his workload at Chalmun's Cantina by acquiring slaves, but he chose not to. He harbored similar feelings towards bounty hunters, but was compelled to serve them for fear of damaging his reputation. His strong aversion to droids stemmed from the death of his parents at the hands of battle droids during the Clone Wars. However, he held great respect for the Jedi, who had once rescued him from an entire battalion of droids. His nightly routine involved drinking a glass of blue milk to soothe his stomach.

Behind the scenes

The character of Wuher was brought to life by British actor Ted Burnett in the film A New Hope. At the time of the film's release, the character was simply referred to as "The Bartender." However, the Star Wars Legends source material, specifically "Be Still My Heart: The Bartender's Tale" from the Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina anthology, identified him as "Wuher." Additionally, the Mos Eisley Adventure Set provided the character's name as "Cedo Partu." The former name was later confirmed as the character's official name. The definitive name was later integrated into the canon continuity on April 25, 2014, as documented in the reference book Ultimate Star Wars.
