The Second Imperial Civil War concluded in 138 ABY with the vanquishing of the One Sith order and the demise of its leader, Darth Krayt. The remaining adherents of the Sith cult retreated into obscurity, operating covertly as the newly formed Galactic Federation Triumvirate solidified its authority on Coruscant. However, in 138 ABY, the Sith Darth Wredd initiated an overt insurgency against both the Galactic Alliance and his fellow Sith. The ensuing two-year conflict reached its climax with the Battle of the Floating World, a confrontation that took place on the planet Mala between the One Sith and the Galactic Alliance, with the unexpected assistance of Wredd. The battle concluded with many beings erroneously believing that the One Sith had been completely eradicated and also with Wredd's death. A remarkable group comprising the junk dealer Ania Solo, her associate Sauk, the droid AG-37, and the Imperial Knight Jao Assam played a pivotal role in securing the victory. In recognition of her contributions, Solo was offered the position of captain of Empress Marasiah Fel's personal guard, but she declined the offer, choosing instead to journey through the galaxy with her companions.

The galaxy in 140 ABY

With the One Sith's significant defeat, a period of peace commenced for the Galactic Alliance. One year following the Battle of the Floating World, Solo, Sauk, Assam, and AG-37 were traveling together aboard AG-37's freighter when the vessel's stabilizing coil malfunctioned. Halting at a specific locale, the crew dispatched Sauk to procure a replacement part, while they waited at the hangar. The Mon Calamari acquired a used stabilizing coil from the heroes of the Second Imperial Civil War, Cade Skywalker, Deliah Blue, and Jariah Syn. Concurrently, Solo, Assam, and AG-37 came under attack from another faction. As Sauk was returning to his friends, he heard their cries for help and joined the exchange of fire.
