AA-9 Freighter-Liner

The AA-9 Freighter-Liner, alternatively known as the AA-9 Coruscant freighter, represented a significant achievement for Botajef Shipyards, a starship manufacturer. Its creation propelled the then-small company into galactic recognition. Initially designed as a freighter, its function expanded to include refugee transport and, throughout the Clone Wars, it served as a troopship for the forces of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Characteristics

The AA-9 Freighter-Liner, also known as the AA-9 Coruscant freighter, was a freighter built by Botajef Shipyards. This vessel was capable of reaching 420 kilometers per hour and measured 390 meters in length. It could accommodate 30,000 passengers and carried emergency supplies sufficient for over three months. Key features included a Class 4 hyperdrive, three powerful engines, boarding access on both the starboard and port sides, multi-level accommodations, multiple cafeterias, and a complement of various service droids.

History

The transport's starboard profile

Originally intended for cargo hauling, AA-9 Freighter-Liners saw active service as transports during the time of the Separatist Crisis. Back in 22 BBY, the AA-9 Freighter-Liner named Jendirian Valley was tasked with the responsibility of ferrying Senator Padmé Amidala, along with her Jedi protector Anakin Skywalker, back to her homeworld of Naboo following a failed assassination attempt against her.

During the Clone Wars, the Refugee Relief Movement leveraged AA-9s as support craft, moving refugees away from planets that had fallen to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The forces of the Grand Army, serving the Galactic Republic, also made use of AA-9 Freighter-Liners during the conflict to move both supplies and clone troopers. Their presence on Coruscant made them well-suited for these operations. The extensive deployment of this model during the war significantly boosted Botajef Shipyards' reputation in the galactic shipbuilding community, enabling the company to diversify into the military starship market.

Behind the scenes

The AA-9 Freighter-Liner made its initial appearance in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. It was later officially identified as the AA-9 Coruscant freighter within the Databank section of the StarWars.com website.
