Aquillian Ranger

An Aquillian Ranger was a type of individual who was active during the Imperial Era. While starship spotting on Alderaan in 9 BBY, Princess Leia Organa spotted a Tri-Wing S-91x Pegasus Starfighter, and hypothesized that it was an Aquillian Ranger scouting for the Merson pirates.

The Aquillian Rangers originated in George Lucas' second draft of the original Star Wars film, apparently in reference to the planet Aquilae that had appeared in previous drafts. Deak Starkiller was conceptualized as a Jedi and an Aquillian Ranger; elements of his character would later be given to Princess Leia. In the third draft, the Aquillian Rangers are present with the Rebels on Yavin 4.

The backstory of the Aquillian Rangers as allies of the Jedi would be partially incorporated into that of the Antarian Rangers, in the Star Wars Legends continuity. However, the name itself would not be introduced to canon until Leia's mention in Part I of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
