In the year 35 ABY, during the conflict known as the First Order-Resistance War, the Resistance employed the B-wing Mark III, which was also referred to as the Resistance B-wing. This model represented the latest iteration in the "blade wing" line. While it may have lacked the speed and agility of other starfighters of its time, it possessed the necessary destructive power to confront the Sith Eternal fleet. A key feature of every Resistance B-wing was the inclusion of the formidable Gyrhil R-9X heavy laser cannon.
The quantity of these starfighters was restricted; the Resistance core had only about a handful. Furthermore, X-wing pilots received training to operate these newer craft. Pattros Navesh, a pilot hailing from Lantillies, spearheaded attacks against Resurgent-class Star Destroyers using this fighter. During the Battle of Exegol between the Resistance and the Sith Eternal, at least six B-wings were deployed, with Enanan Supa and Pattros Navesh piloting two of them. Soon after the Resistance emerged from hyperspace and entered Exegol's atmosphere, one B-wing was struck down by ion cannon fire.
The B-Wing makes an appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, a saga film released in 2019. The design of this updated fighter was inspired by the drawings of concept artist Joe Johnston.
