Jedi of the Republic – Mace Windu 2

On a world shrouded in near-constant darkness, the Jedi are tasked with illuminating the way. Mace encounters trials that put both his beliefs and capabilities to the test. The central question arises: is it truly the Jedi's role to engage in warfare?

Mace Windu, accompanied by Kit Fisto, Prosset Dibs, and Rissa Mano, venture into the subterranean caverns of Hissrich, escorted by several indigenous lifeforms. Windu and Fisto engage in a conversation regarding the nature of these creatures, with Windu expressing that he detects no malevolent intent from them. The Jedi are guided to the heart of the cave system, where they once again attempt to discern the connection between their surroundings and the Separatist presence. Mano observes one of the creatures attending to a malfunctioning battle droid.

Concurrently, at the droid installation, AD-W4 verifies the readiness of all his droid forces for deployment. Upon detecting an anomaly in Sector S2C, AD-W4 declares his intention to personally oversee the escort, citing his desire to confront the Jedi directly.

Mano examines the damaged droid, confirming its operational status, but her efforts to access its memory are interrupted by the arrival of Separatist forces. The Jedi witness the caves collapsing and vegetation being uprooted, followed by a substantial explosion that introduces droids through a newly formed opening in the surface. Windu confronts the destroyers, while Fisto, Dibs, and Mano prioritize the protection of the local inhabitants. After Windu neutralizes the droids, he is confronted by AD-W4. The two engage in a brief exchange before Windu issues a challenge to AD-W4. As Fisto, Dibs, and Mano continue their battle, Mano questions the identity of Windu's opponent. Windu and AD-W4 debate matters of conscience and financial gain before AD-W4 propels debris at Windu, causing him to fall off a cliff, only to be rescued by Fisto. Mano and Windu collaborate to confront AD-W4, ascending one of the plants when Windu discovers droids harvesting them. The two Jedi then realize the Separatists' motive for being there: these plants offer a potent energy source due to their photosynthetic properties. Windu and Mano proceed to destroy the harvesting equipment. Dibs and Fisto continue to engage more droids as they realize the cave is collapsing.

Windu and Mano reach an elevated position and observe a multitude of droids harvesting the plants. The comic concludes with Mace delivering an ominous forecast: if no intervention occurs, the entire ecosystem of Hissrich will perish.
