Qotile, a place situated within the galaxy, was a desolate and barren world governed by a monarch who concealed their identity behind a mask. Before the Battle of Hoth took place, Bossk, a Trandoshan bounty hunter, collected the reward for capturing this ruler and subsequently took over as the leader of Qotile. Bossk would later recount this event to his sister, Doshanalawook (also known as "Chainbreaker"), as an illustration of his skills as a bounty hunter; however, she countered that his acquisition of the throne was pointless due to Qotile's inhospitable environment.
The concept of Qotile initially appeared in the Star Wars Legends continuity. The Qotile system, along with Bossk's connection to it, was referenced in the Star Wars (1977) 67 comic book from 1982, which was penned by David Michelinie. The planet Qotile, whose surface was ruined in the Stark Hyperspace War, was first explicitly cited in the Legends publication The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia. Within canon, Qotile's initial mention occurred in "Tooth and Claw," a brief narrative authored by Michael Kogge and featured in From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back, released in 2020.
