Vrethan stationery products were commonly stamped, and at least one type of them resembled the edible product potato. At one point, the newlywed Duros couple Etro and Droza Edthatt were kidnapped by Humans from the planet the pair believed was named "Urthha." There, the Edthatts were taken to a party, where they were forced to eat. The Duros found the dishes to resemble Vrethan stationery products, and accordingly Etro began stamping them, causing the party's hostess to become angry and leave.
Etro subsequently ate a potato, which he believed to also have been a stationery product, only for the Duros to become sick and develop collard lesions. The Edthatts' misidentification of the Human food as Vrethan stationery products was later mentioned in an article in the August 8, 6094 issue of The Galactic Gossip publication that covered the pair's abduction.
Vrethan stationery products were mentioned in the 1993 book Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas, a publication that combines creature designs and photographs from various projects of George Lucas, creator of the Star Wars franchise, with original text by Bob Carrau. Lucasfilm employee Leland Chee, who maintains the Holocron continuity database, has indicated that information contained in Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas is non-canonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity. However, the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas built upon the mention of Vrethan stationery products by introducing the Vretha system of the Mid Rim.
