Wedding of Han Solo and Leia Organa

The marital union of Han Solo and Leia Organa occurred in the year 8 ABY – according to the year system – on the planet Coruscant. This event took place approximately six weeks following the Battle of Dathomir.

The Ceremony

In the time frame of 8 ABY, not long after the defeat of the Imperial warlord Zsinj at the Battle of Dathomir, Leia Organa, who held the titles of Princess of Alderaan and Ambassador representing the New Republic, accepted the proposal of marriage from General Han Solo. Three years prior, their initial attempt to get married was disrupted by an attack from the Empire, under the leadership of Triclops, who targeted those in attendance.

The celebratory affair was held at Cantham House, the Alderaanian Consulate located on Coruscant, six weeks after the aforementioned battle. Mon Mothma, the Chief of State, presided over the ceremony. C-3PO served as the ring-bearer, despite having been confined to a closet until the ceremony's commencement. Earlier, C-3PO had announced that Han's great-grandfather, Korol Solo, was the king of Corellia, only to later discover that Korol was an imposter who was executed for his crime. The best man, Luke Skywalker, arrived late after the shuttle driver mistakenly left him at the Aldereenian Consulate. He encountered Threepio and deactivated the droid to prevent him from disrupting the wedding. A thousand guests were physically present, while billions more across the galaxy were "present" via HoloNet broadcasts. The wedding footage was repeatedly broadcast on the HoloNet for several weeks after the event, garnering overwhelmingly positive responses.

During the wedding, Yarna d'al' Gargan performed the Dance of the Seventy Violet Veils, catching the eye of a designer who subsequently used her as inspiration for his jeweled brassieres.

Behind the Scenes

The novel Prophets of the Dark Side, published in 1993 and serving as the sixth and final installment of the Jedi Prince series, concluded with a wedding between Han Solo and Leia Organa. This event was set in the Grand Audience Chamber on Yavin 4 during the year 5 ABY. However, the Jedi Prince series was discontinued, and this depiction of the wedding was superseded in canon by the version presented in Dave Wolverton's novel The Courtship of Princess Leia. Paul Davids, who co-authored the Jedi Prince saga, mentioned that the subsequent book would have featured an interruption of the wedding by Imperial forces. This abandoned ceremony was later reintroduced into canon with the publication of The Star Wars Spy Game: SPIN Declassified, an article penned by Abel G. Peña and Greg Mitchell for the StarWars.com official blog.

Cracken's Threat Dossier non-canon depiction of the ceremony

In contrast to the narrative presented in The Courtship of Princess Leia, Cracken's Threat Dossier indicates that Han and Leia were wed on Dathomir by Augwynne Djo following the Battle of Dathomir: "Shortly after the destruction of the Iron Fist and the Nightsisters, Han Solo and Leia Organa were married by Augwynne (NRI Security File 752.09.89.17.03) at the fortress of the Singing Mountain Clan."

Rumors persist that Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi was initially intended to conclude with the wedding. Some accounts even claim that these scenes were filmed but ultimately omitted from the final cut.
