Augwynne Djo, a human female strong in the Force, held the esteemed position of clan mother for the Singing Mountain Clan, part of the Witches of Dathomir. Around 8 ABY, she ascended to the largely symbolic role of Queen of Dathomir, a position more of a constitutional formality than actual power. She was the grandmother of Teneniel Djo, great-grandmother to Tenel Ka, and the great-great-grandmother of Allana Solo.
As clan mother, Augwynne Djo experienced a variety of adventures. She once aided Jax Pavan, a Jedi Knight, as he sought the secrets of the Sith Lord known as Darth Ramage. On another occasion, with assistance from the New Republic, she successfully drove away the Nightsisters, a rival witch clan. In return for three favors from Han Solo, the smuggler, she was granted the deed to Dathomir.
Augwynne Djo was born on the planet Dathomir, several decades before Emperor Palpatine established the Galactic Empire. As a human female, she belonged to the Witches of Dathomir, a society primarily composed of women with Force abilities.
Prior to the rise of the Empire in 19 BBY, she became the clan mother for the Singing Mountain Clan, a coven of witches. Their territory centered around the eponymous Singing Mountain. Mother Augwynne and her sisters guarded a ruined Star Temple, a pyramid-like structure built by the ancient, extragalactic Kwa species. This temple protected a powerful artifact capable of galaxy-wide transport.
Augwynne Djo's time as clan mother was marked by personal tragedies. She lost all four of her daughters to either death or betrayal. Her eldest, Barukka, delved into the forbidden teachings of the dark side of the Force, leading to her banishment. Another daughter, Allaya Djo, served as the clan's warmaster and mother to Teneniel, but died in battle. The most painful loss was Gethzerion, her favorite. Gethzerion and Barukka, both consumed by the dark side, became Nightsisters and attempted to kill their mother, a plot thwarted by the sacrifice of their youngest sister, Kara'Teel, who gave her life to protect Augwynne. Following these events, Augwynne chose to adopt Aelta.
In 19 BBY, Jax Pavan, a Jedi Knight, traveled to Dathomir seeking a Star Temple. Upon landing near the Singing Mountain, he was escorted to Djo's chambers by sisters Magash Drashi and Duala Aidu. After a brief conversation, Djo allowed him to explore the Star Temple. Upon Pavan's return, Djo and the other sisters agreed to assist him in activating the SD41263.I holocron to uncover the secrets of the Sith Lord Darth Ramage. The holocron required blood from a Force-sensitive individual to activate. Djo, Aida, Pavan, and Drashi each provided blood. After Pavan's infiltration of Kantaros Station, Djo erased the dark knowledge from his mind, as he had requested.
During the Galactic Civil War, Augwynne informed Rachi Sitra, a Jedi Knight, about the threat posed by the Nightsister Kyrisa. After Gethzerion murdered her adopted daughter Aelta, Augwynne adopted Chastina and gifted her a necklace that had belonged to Gethzerion.

In 8 ABY, Augwynne was present when Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa of the New Republic arrived at the Singing Mountain Clan. After Leia presented his case, Djo declared Han free from the slavery of the Nightsisters. Discovering that Han possessed the deed to Dathomir, she offered to fulfill three requests in exchange for it. Han asked to be taken off Dathomir, to receive the abundant gold and gems of the planet, and for a way to convince Leia to marry him. However, she did not fulfill the third request, believing she could not force Leia's hand. Augwynne consulted with the Council of Sisters (Tannath, Azbeth, Shen) in her chambers, discussing the dangers of fighting the Nightsisters. Djo led the sisters of the Singing Mountain Clan against the Nightsisters to buy Han time to escape Dathomir in the Millennium Falcon. She requested aid from the Red Hills Clan and Frenzied River Clan, but neither offered assistance. Thanks to Luke Skywalker, a Jedi Knight, Chume'da Isolder of the Hapes Consortium, Han Solo, Leia Organa, Chewbacca, and her granddaughter Teneniel, the sisters of the Singing Mountain Clan were able to drive the Nightsisters away. The Nightsisters were finally eliminated when Zsinj's forces, whose empire controlled the Quelii sector, shot them down as they attempted to flee Dathomir. After the Battle of Dathomir, Han Solo relinquished the deed to Dathomir, making Augwynne its owner. Around this time, her surviving daughter Barukka returned from the dark and rejoined the clan, bringing joy to Augwynne. Augwynne then advocated for Dathomir's inclusion in the New Republic.
In 23 ABY, Tenel Ka Djo, Luke and Augwynne's great-granddaughter, sought Augwynne's help on Dathomir to locate the resurgent Nightsisters and the Shadow Academy. Augwynne consulted with the Council of Sisters. Upon returning, she informed Luke that visitors would arrive to answer their questions. After Vonnda Ra and Vilas from the Great Canyon Clan shared the story of the Nightsisters, Luke and Tenel decided to travel to the Great Canyon. Before their departure, Augwynne gave them cloaks and embraced Tenel. That same year, Augwynne's favorite rancor passed away, and Tenel Ka kept two of its smaller teeth, using them as the hilt for her lightsaber. In 24 ABY, she and the rest of the Djo family visited Tenel at her graduation from the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4.
Djo possessed pale eyes and hair the color of moonlight. She was a tall, regal figure with facial features considered handsome by other Humans, as well as graceful hands with long fingers. By 19 BBY, she appeared to be a sixty-year-old woman, despite being much older.
Unlike her fellow sisters, Djo was more open to outsiders. She was shrewd and calculating, successfully manipulating Han Solo into the bargain that secured her the deed to Dathomir. She generally adhered to her clan's laws but was known to bend them occasionally.
Djo was skilled in Allyan Magic, demonstrating many Force abilities. She could use the Force to absorb and dissipate energy, heal, control pain, create shields, communicate with others at long distances, read people's thoughts and feel their emotions, use telekinesis, kill people telekinetically, create storms telekinetically, comprehend speech, transfer force, and drain people of knowledge. She also knew how to swim, a skill she passed on to her great-granddaughter, Tenel Ka.
When in ceremonial attire, Mother Djo wore a tunic made of shimmering yellow scales over a hide robe adorned with black lizard shapes around the hem. Her ceremonial headdress was crafted from smooth golden wood and decorated with yellow tigereye cabochons. On other occasions, Djo wore a coronet made of aurodium.
Augwynne Djo made her first appearance in The Courtship of Princess Leia, a 1994 novel by Dave Wolverton.
Cracken's Threat Dossier incorrectly claims that she officiated the marriage of Han and Leia Solo, contradicting The Courtship of Princess Leia. This article assumes The Courtship of Princess Leia is the accurate source. The Star Wars Encyclopedia incorrectly states that Augwynne became clan mother after the death of her daughter Allaya. However, multiple sources confirm that she held the position long before Allaya's death. This article assumes those sources are correct.
