A'Shar Farless was a captain serving the Galactic Empire's military; he was a male human. During his training at the Arkanis Academy, Farless discovered a plot by senior cadets to falsely accuse junior cadets of damaging a port, despite the younger cadets having received orders to do so. Consequently, the captain rallied a group of fellow students, instructing them to create a diversion near the cliffs to provide cover for the junior cadets' escape. He motivated his peers to leap from a cliff and execute a rescue mission.
Farless was assigned to the Imperial security complex located on the [planet](/article/planet] Scarif, accompanied by his DT-series sentry droid, DT-JZ, which his family had provided for his protection. One day, Governor Wilhuff Tarkin visited the complex. Following a formal address, he invited Farless for a conversation. Farless recounted his experiences at the Arkanis Academy. Tarkin disclosed that he had specifically requested Farless's assignment to Scarif due to his talent for inspiring action. He informed Farless that the Citadel Tower held highly sensitive plans within the Scarif vault and expressed concerns about potential spies infiltrating the facility. He tasked Farless with enhancing the performance of the Imperial personnel at the complex, granting him command of his own squad. Tarkin prohibited DT-JZ from remaining with Farless, leading the captain to bid a final farewell to the droid. Subsequently, Farless encountered his new squad and delivered a speech emphasizing their duty to fight for the Empire.
