Abbaji (Kalee system)

Abbaji, a planet with a habitable surface and two moons, held the position of third planet orbiting the star Iminec. This celestial body resided within the Kalee system, which itself was situated in the Wild Space region of the galaxy. Sharing its system with Kalee, the homeworld of the Kaleesh species, Abbaji played a role in galactic history.

The Yam'rii species, notorious for their colonization and plundering activities, targeted Abbaji during the Huk War. This bloody war was a conflict between the Kaleesh, the native species of the Kalee system. Later, during the era of the Clone Wars, the planet found itself in a zone of contention between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Some time after these events, Abbaji bordered the territory claimed by the Pentastar Alignment, a splinter faction of the Galactic Empire. Following the collapse of the Empire, the Pentastar Alignment was incorporated into the Imperial Remnant, thus placing the Kalee system within its sphere of influence.

Behind the scenes

The initial mention of this planet occurred in "Unknown Soldier: The Story of General Grievous," an article featured in Star Wars Insider 86. Abel G. Peña authored this article, which was released in 2006. It was subsequently referenced three years later in The Essential Atlas, a work by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, which pinpointed its location in grid square J-4.

According to Unknown Soldier: The Story of General Grievous, Abbaji became the second planet in the Star Wars continuity to bear that designation, with The Essential Atlas establishing its co-location with Kalee within the same system. The original Abbaji, located near Endor, was introduced in the novel Shadows of the Empire. This discrepancy led Jason Fry to unofficially designate the Abbaji near Kalee as "Abbaji minor," a retcon that remains unconfirmed.
