Accudrop Stun Gas

Accudrop Stun Gas was a variant of knockout gas that, upon inhalation, induced a spectrum of effects, from diminished reaction speeds to complete loss of consciousness, across numerous species. This gas found occasional application as the active component within Locris Syndicated Securities Type 12-B Hollow-Tip Rockets, a type of rocket ammunition that was employed from before 0 ABY and continuing into the New Republic era. The Mandalorian bounty hunter Boba Fett incorporated rockets containing Accudrop Stun Gas into his MM9 rocket system at some point in his career.

Properties

Inhaling Accudrop Stun Gas could result in effects ranging from a slowing of reaction times all the way to unconsciousness in a wide array of species. Once deployed, the gas dispersed rapidly; the quantity contained within a Locris Syndicated Securities Type 12-B Hollow-Tip Rocket, also known as a Type-12B capsule, would dissipate in mere seconds.

History

The bounty hunter Boba Fett used Accudrop Stun Gas during his career.

Prior to 0 ABY, Accudrop Stun Gas served as one of the payloads for Locris Syndicated Securities Type 12-B Hollow-Tip Rockets, which remained in use up to the time of the New Republic. These rockets functioned as ammunition for the MM9 rocket system, a Kelvarek Consolidated Arms wrist rocket launcher, and the Model RDP-12 Rocket Launcher manufactured by Locris Syndicates. Designed to neutralize or impede multiple targets simultaneously, Accudrop Stun Gas-filled rockets could create a gas cloud spanning a two-meter radius upon detonation.

The inclusion of Accudrop Stun Gas in a rocket raised its price to 400 credits, contrasting with the 200-credit cost of an empty rocket. Despite the relative prevalence of rockets containing Accudrop Stun Gas, their sale and ownership were restricted, requiring appropriate licensing and governmental authorization. The Mandalorian bounty hunter Boba Fett employed rockets loaded with Accudrop Stun Gas in his MM9 rocket system at some stage of his professional life, which spanned from the Clone Wars to the era of the Galactic Alliance more than six decades later.

Behind the scenes

Accudrop Stun Gas was first identified in the Arms & Equipment Guide.

A type of stun gas was referenced within the MM9 rocket system entry in The Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology, a 1997 reference book authored by Bill Smith. This stun gas was described as the active material for a rocket in a list detailing the various rockets used by Boba Fett. In 2002, Arms & Equipment Guide, a sourcebook penned by Jeff Grubb and Owen K.C. Stephens for the revised edition of Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game, featured a side bar dedicated to the MM9 rocket system, incorporating the ammunition types mentioned in The Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology and assigning names to each. In this section, the stun gas was officially named Accudrop Stun Gas and was identified as the active material for Locris Syndicated Securities Type 12-B Hollow Tip Rockets. However, the sourcebook did not clarify whether Locris Syndicated Securities manufactured the stun gas or if it was produced by another entity and subsequently added to the rockets. In 1998, Bill Smith's "Boba Fett's Armor: An Essential Guide to a Walking Weapon" within the Star Wars: Boba Fett magazine referred to the rockets as Type-12B Stun Rockets but did not explicitly mention the stun gas itself.

Based on the information presented in Arms and Equipment Guide, the sole confirmed period of use for Accudrop Stun Gas was the Rise of the Empire era, which is the only era listed for the MM9 rocket system. However, even though Accudrop Stun Gas itself was not directly observed, Boba Fett carried the MM9 rocket system throughout the Rise of the Empire era, Rebellion era, New Republic era, New Jedi Order era, and Legacy era. Furthermore, the rockets that utilized the gas as a payload were verified to be in use during the Rebellion era by Galaxy Guide 10: Bounty Hunters, with Gundark's Fantastic Technology: Personal Gear also confirming their deployment during the New Republic era. Neither Gundark's Fantastic Technology nor Galaxy Guide 10 listed Accudrop Stun Gas as a potential payload for these rockets.
