Kane Starkiller
Kane Starkiller was the father, a Jedi, to both Annikin Starkiller and Deak Starkiller, who were brothers. His planet of origin was Aquilae.
Biography
After the Knights of Sith took the place of the Jedi-Bendu as protectors of the Galactic Emperor, Kane Starkiller escaped to the Fourth Moon of Utapau. He was compelled to flee when the Galactic Empire got to Utapau, which resulted in the death of his son, Deak.
Kane requested that General Luke Skywalker accept Annikin as his Padawan. He was unable to teach his son about the Force because he was secretly a cyborg, a fact he had concealed from everyone, even his own family. Only his head and his right arm were still organic. His mechanical components were gradually breaking down, which was causing his death. In Gordon, he gave up his own life by donating the energy pack that powered his electronic heart, which the heroes needed to power the freighter and hibernation chambers required to reach the Forbidden Systems.
Behind the scenes
- Kane makes his initial appearance in the unpolished version of the original movie. In the initial script, he is renamed Akira Valor. In the subsequent script, he is simply known as "The Starkiller," serves as the father of Luke Starkiller, and survives to the end of the story without being a cyborg. He is removed in the subsequent story summary and replaced by a crazy old man they meet on their journey. The concept of Luke's father being a cyborg was later integrated into the narrative of Darth Vader. Coincidentally, Kane's cyborg body featured a chest plate on his torso that bore resemblance to a similar chest plate found on Vader's life-support armor.
- There is another similar father-son dynamic, this one between Kol Skywalker and his son, Cade Skywalker, which also includes Kol's eventual act of sacrifice. The abundance of Sith and their corruption of the New Galactic Empire closely mirrors the occurrences described in the rough and initial drafts.
- The identity of Kane's wife, who was also the mother of Annikin and Deak, remains a mystery, as does her fate, as it's suggested that she is deceased.
