The Alderaan peace conference represented a parley between envoys from the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire, with the aim of negotiating an end to the prolonged Great Galactic War. This conflict erupted following the Empire's resurgence into known territories in 3681 BBY, continuing relentlessly for three decades thereafter. By 3653 BBY, the Sith Emperor, desiring a swift resolution, instructed his Dark Council to formally propose peace terms to the Republic's senate. The Senate, desperate for respite from the devastating war, agreed to the proposition. Consequently, arrangements were finalized for a summit to convene on the Core World of Alderaan.
The Sith delegation arrives.
However, the Sith never intended a truly peaceful conclusion to the war, and they planned the Sacking of Coruscant to coincide strategically with the peace conference. Concurrently, while the Sith delegation, headed by the Sith Lord Darth Baras, engaged in discussions with the Republic delegation led by Cerean Senator Paran Am-Ris, [Darth Angral] (/article/darth_angral) of the Sith Empire spearheaded an assault on Coruscant, the Republic's central world. This attack resulted in the Empire holding Coruscant hostage, which empowered Lord Baras to seize control of the negotiations unfolding on Alderaan. The Republic representatives were then compelled to ratify the Treaty of Coruscant. This agreement formally ended the war, but also forced the Republic to withdraw its military presence and end support for its longtime allies.
