The Alliance to Restore the Republic's military personnel donned a diverse selection of uniforms both before and during the Galactic Civil War that they fought against the Galactic Empire. These uniforms were not uniform; they depended on the individual's role within the military and the environment to which they were assigned.
Alliance personnel stationed on the frozen planet of Hoth faced sub-zero conditions and, therefore, wore specialized snow gear designed for survival. High-ranking officers stationed at the Alliance's Echo Base, including Generals Carlist Rieekan and Pharl McQuarrie, as well as Major Bren Derlin, were equipped with an insulated brown cold-weather issue command parka displaying their rank insignia plaque. They also wore a brown utility belt, white Command gauntlets, white trousers, gray boots, and an insulated watch cap complete with a com set, face wrap, two cap warmers, and Anti-glare goggles.
Officers of lower rank within the base, such as Lieutenants Cal Alder and Tigran Jamiro, wore the same headgear, trousers, boots, and gauntlets as their superiors, but instead of the command parka, they wore a sleeveless jacket over a white shirt. Communication center staff at the base sported a variation of the lower-ranking officer's attire, substituting the watch cap with a communication headset and featuring a much higher collar on their sleeveless jackets, similar to those on the command parka. The base's technicians wore yet another version of the lower-ranking officer's uniform, which included brown gloves and a simpler cap.
The soldiers stationed at the bases, such as Colonel Ledick Firest, similarly wore the same headgear and boots, but they wore a shorter pair of white gloves, gray or brown pants, and utilized a thermal flak jacket along with a bulky backpack. Pilots assigned to the base wore a modified version of the standard Rebel Alliance Starfighter Corps uniform, consisting of an orange jacket with a high collar worn over the usual flight suit, and white command gauntlets instead of black gloves.
Princess Leia Organa wore a unique outfit, symbolically white to represent her status as princess of the lost world of Alderaan. This ensemble included a rebel-issue, heated white all-weather vest worn over a white insulated jumpsuit, paired with gray military snow boots equipped with bindings. Smuggler Han Solo also sported a distinctive uniform, wearing a dark brown heavy-weather parka with a fur-lined hood, along with gray pants and boots.
