Amuncie Tidian

Amuncie Tidian, hailing from the celestial body Boosodia, was a Boosodian forger. He had ties to the Spice Runners of Kijimi and operated on the planet Kijimi not long before it faced destruction in 35 ABY. During the First Order's occupation of the world, he briefly stepped out of a building in Kijimi City before quickly retreating upon noticing a First Order patrol nearby.

Tidian possessed twenty eyes that he could focus to perceive various parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Moreover, he falsely believed he could glimpse the future using a supposed twenty-first eye.

Biography

Amuncie Tidian, a Boosodian, originated from Boosodia, a celestial body found within the Inner Rim. During the war that pitted the First Order against the Resistance, he made his living as a forger in the Thieves' Quarter district of Kijimi City on the planet Kijimi. He was associated with the local Spice Runners of Kijimi.

Tidian was caught in a spotlight in Kijimi City.

In 35 ABY, during the First Order's occupation of Kijimi, Tidian, wary of drawing attention to his illicit activities, sought to remain hidden. He would take cover when the occupying forces were in the vicinity. However, he briefly emerged from a building in the Thieves' Quarter as a spotlight illuminated the doorway. Tidian called out and glanced around, failing to spot the hidden Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, but noticing a First Order patrol attempting to enter a nearby structure. The sight of the First Order startled him, causing him to exclaim in alarm and rush back inside, closing the door behind him. Shortly after Tidian's hasty retreat, the First Order evacuated its forces from Kijimi before the Sith Eternal destroyed the planet. It's highly probable that Tidian perished in the ensuing catastrophe.

Personality and traits

As a Boosodian, Amuncie Tidian benefitted greatly from his twenty eyes, which proved invaluable to his work as a forger. He could concentrate clusters of his eyes to focus on specific portions of the electromagnetic spectrum, including X-rays, and even radio waves with considerable effort. In the time leading up to Kijimi's destruction, he and others became convinced that he could foresee the future, attributing this supposed ability to a non-existent additional eye. Tidian possessed gray skin and white eyes.

Equipment

Tidian was clad in a black insulated environment suit along with black boots.

Behind the scenes

"Haunted Alien" by Martin Rezard

Nick Kellington played Amuncie Tidian in the 2019 sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. His identity was simultaneously revealed in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book by Pablo Hidalgo, and a card from the 2019 Topps Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Series 1 trading card set by The Topps Company, Inc..

Originally, Tidian was conceived as an alien who had witnessed the ten thousand Star Destroyers of the Sith Eternal's fleet, the Final Order, and relayed this information to the Resistance. The character's haunted appearance was a key element of the initial brief, and creature concept designer and senior sculptor Martin Rezard gave him numerous eyes to prompt viewers to question whether he truly saw that many ships, or if his multiple eyes distorted his perception.

Rezard's concept art was titled "Haunted Alien," and Calum Alexander Watt also developed a costume concept. Adrian Parish and Claire Roi Harvey, credited as creature performers and puppeteers, and CFX paint finish design supervisor Henrik Svensson also contributed to the character's creation. The Tidian mask featured twenty independently moving eyes with mechanized skin around them to create a ripple effect. The film's script evolved, removing the character's original role, with Boolio instead delivering similar intelligence to the Resistance. However, director J.J. Abrams, fond of Rezard's design, promised to incorporate it elsewhere, ultimately using the character as an extra on Kijimi in the final cut.
